The Golden State Warriors are attempting to go on one last championship run before their title window with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green closes, but so far, things haven’t gone according to plan for the team. While the Warriors are the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference currently, they have just an 11-12 record through their first 23 games.
That’s a far cry from the height of the Warriors’ dynasty, which saw them go on an unprecedented run of success in the 2010s. Among the team’s top accomplishments was their record-setting 73-9 2015-16 season, and when discussing that campaign, Green made a shocking injury admission that will catch fans’ attention.
Draymond Green Played Through a Concussion During 2015-16 Season
By the time the 2015-16 season rolled around, the Warriors had already announced themselves as one of the top teams in the league. They had just taken down the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2015 NBA Finals, and with a star trio in Curry, Green, and Klay Thompson, Golden State quickly proved that they meant business.
That led to them posting a 73-9 record in the 2015-16 campaign, which bested the Chicago Bulls‘ 72-10 record from the 1995-96 season. And while the Warriors would go on to collapse in the 2016 NBA Finals against the Cavs, this historic accomplishment is still something that Green and his former teammates hold in high regard.
Green, in particular, had to battle to get on the court late in the regular season to help the Dubs get to 73 wins. According to the man himself, the legendary forward believes that he was concussed late in the regular season. However, he did not tell anybody on the team, because he feared that his absence from the court would prevent Golden State from breaking the record.
“We were playing against Utah, going for a loose ball, Joe Ingles cracked me. I was 1,000% concussed,” Green shared on “The Draymond Green Show.” “The reason I wouldn’t tell anybody is because in my mind I was like, ‘If I tell somebody I’m concussed, I’m gonna miss at least a week. That may interfere with us getting 73 wins.’ I had the symptoms for a few days. I still never told anybody.”

Given the dangers that come with concussions, it’s certainly not advisable for any athletes to follow Green’s course of action here. It’s pretty obvious that he should he reported his symptoms and gotten the proper treatment, but he opted to put his body on the line to help his team make history, and in the end, his sacrifice did not end up going to waste.
It may not have yielded a championship, but the 2015-16 campaign is still special for the Warriors. In the present, the team is trying to figure out how to get its act together so that it can go on another run this season. After suffering a crushing last-second loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night, Golden State will attempt to get back in the win column on Saturday night when it reignites its rivalry with Cleveland.
