Eagles Executive to Leave Philadelphia for New Job: Report

Things are not going well for the Philadelphia Eagles currently. After enjoying a strong start to the 2025 campaign, the team has lost back-to-back games to the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears, opening the door for the Cowboys to make a late run for the top spot in the NFC East division.

The situation is beginning to feel eerily similar to the 2023 season, when Philly got off to a 10-1 start before collapsing down the stretch and eventually getting eliminated in the NFC Wild Card round. There is still time for the Eagles to turn things around this year, but some folks are already beginning to run for the hills, as one of the team’s top front office executives, David Caldwell, is reportedly jumping ship.

Eagles’ Exec David Caldwell Bolts for Florida Gators GM Job

This isn’t the first time the Eagles have faced adversity in recent years. After falling apart in 2023, Philly got hot in 2024 and rode that all the way to a Super Bowl victory. This season, they appeared primed to be one of the top championship contenders, but they look to be fading at the worst possible time.

There have been several reports of internal tension hovering over the Eagles this season, and if the team falls apart just like it did in 2023, some serious questions will have to be answered over the offseason. A mass exodus could occur at all levels of the team, and it seems like one guy has already found a way to get out of town.

That guy would be Caldwell, the former general manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who has been working as a personnel executive for Philadelphia since 2021. With things trending in the wrong direction for the Eagles, Caldwell is taking his first foray into the world of college football, as reports indicate he’s set to take the Florida Gators general manager position.

“Florida is finalizing a deal with former Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell to be the Gators’ next general manager, sources tell On3,” Pete Nakos reported. “He’s currently an executive in the Philadelphia Eagles front office.”

Eagles Need to Get Their Act Together

Chances are, Caldwell would have taken this job regardless of the Eagles’ situation, but his departure could be the first in a line of several exits if Philadelphia continues to fall apart. It’s truly confusing how Philly can go from looking unstoppable one season to barely being able to string together wins, but that just appears to be how this team is wired.

The Eagles showed signs of life late in their Black Friday loss to the Bears, but they will need to be significantly better in every facet of the game if they want to reemerge as a top Super Bowl contender. Philadelphia has another tough matchup on its hands in Week 14, though, as a trip out west to face the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football awaits them.
