Eagles Fans Need to Keep Their Emotions in Check as Champs Embark on Second Half Run Tonight In Lambeau.

You know, for a fanbase that’s supposedly one of the smartest in football, Eagles Nation has an amazing ability to devolve from high-IQ deep thinkers into fully tricked out troglodytes.  All it takes is  A.J. Brown tweeting out his post game thoughts about not getting the ball enough and boom! Half the fanbase wants to jettison him to the AFC.  It’s one ofthe most asinine things I’ve ever heard from the mouths of Eagles fans and that’s saying something.

Smear Campaign

Then of  course it becomes a smear campaign on the team’s best player.  You hear “A.J. Brown gave up on that ball against the Broncos. He’s doggin’ it!”. Um, no he didn’t.  He had Denver’s d-backs beaten by five yards.  If you knew anything about the wide receiver position you’d know that Brown has to track the ball and adjust his speed accordingly.  He couldn’t find the ball in time.  I’ve never seen a guy give up on a ball after getting 5 yards of separation but that’s some real good insight.

So the fan base wants to trade him, yeah, that’s a brilliant idea, trade your best player because he’s a “headache.”  How’d it for out for the Titans?  They tried to replace him with a draft pick the Eagles sent them, Treylon Burks, maybe you’ve head of him, or maybe not.

You know what kind of headache Brown is? The kind you pop a couple of Advil for, then thank God you’ve still got him.  Because that “headache” has 1,400-yard seasons on repeat and the Birds are 22-2 when he scores a touchdown.

Calm and Cool Howie

So Kudos to birds’ G.M. Howie Roseman for keeping his composure when he was repeatedly  asked if he ever thought about tr.ading brown recently.  Howie calmly reminded his dim witted constituents that “You don’t win championships by trading away your best players.” Yet here we are again, a year after birds fans wanted to fire head coach Nick Sirianni for chirping at the crowd during the Browns game last year and getting a new hair cut the next day.  Yeah ride Sirianni out of town on a rail because – what’s he ever won?  He’s only one of the winningest coach’s in nfl history this side of some guy named Lombardi.

Philly fans, I love you, I feel you, I’m with you, but you need to stop string stupid sh*t.  Let Howie and A.J. do their jobs.  Your job is to enjoy what is currently the greatest era in Eagles football. It won’t be here forever.

Overrated

Now as for the upcoming game with Green Bay Monday night – so most of the country jumped on the Packers band wagon after a week one win over the Detroit Lions.  And I’m just wondering why is it that I always have to be the one to deliver the truth.  Now I’m not one to say I told you so….oh wait, yes I am.  I wrote a story before last year’s wildcard game with the Eagles about the overrated Jordan Love.  Man if I could have sold him short before that game I’d own like six islands right now andno one would ever see me again.  Love played one dynamite game on the road in the playoffs against the Cowboys and his team anointed him as their savior, their franchise quarterback, a gunslinger good enough to be mentioned in the Lambeau lineage with the likes of the Favres and Rodgers and blah blah blah. That win over the Cowboys was a long time ago.  Love hasn’t won a playoff game since and not only that he threw three picks against the Birds in last years’s playoff game.

But hey a pretty sound win over the Lions in week one and the Pack is now the team by which all teams should be judged? Right? No, They’re 4-2-1 they lost to the Browns because of a late ill-advised pick by Love.  They put up 40 points against the Cowboys and didn’t win and they just dumped a home game as two touchdown favorites against the Carolina Panthers…

What am I missing?

It’s like everybody raving about the Broncos this year.  a whopping 10 first downs and a 3 point win over the Raiders Thursday night, yeah that’s a very special team at 8-2 in the AFC West.

Failed the Sniff Test

Moving on to one of the many new Eagles free agents that Roseman brought in in bulk to hopefully fix the cornerback and edge rush problems the birds have had this year – how about that former all-pro cornerback Jaire Alexander.  He addressed his brief and puzzling stint with the Baltimore Ravens, explaining why he spent time on the bench before being traded to Philadelphia. The former All-Pro clarified that the decision wasn’t about his health or performance but was part of the Ravens’ rotation plan during a crowded stretch of the season.

The Athletic’s Zach Berman posted on Twitter what the veteran defensive back said about his time in Baltimore, providing important context for his return to the field this week.

“Jaire Alexander said he’s healthy and explained the Baltimore situation as other players getting a chance to play. He said this has been in the works for awhile. He didn’t view it as a chance to prove to others he’s the same player as much as showing what he can do. He’s prideful, and as he noted, still in prime of his career.”

But After signing a one-year deal with the Ravens this summer, he found himself buried on the depth chart behind emerging talent before being traded to the Eagles for a late-round pick.

Did the Ravens come up with this plan after they signed Smith?

And how’d it play out for Baltimore? They had one of the worst secondaries in the league for the first five games of the season but still let an all Pro sit the bench?  Ok we shall see what he looks like Monday night as he returns to Lambeau to play the team that drafted him back in 2018.  Oh but wait, this just in.  Alexander won’t be making the trip to Green Bay with the team due to his injured knee that he had surgery on this past January.  Just a little remider when something smells off it usually is.

The birds are one and a half point under dogs in Lambeau Monday night.  Any time the champs are getting points I just like to just say thank you and be on my way.

PREDICTION: Eagles 34, Packers 27
