Eagles Gut Out a Pretty-Ugly Win Over the Packers in Lambeau Monday Night

Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman said it best last Tuesday after the NFL trade deadline came and went when he said, “You don’t win championships by trading away your best players.”  He was refering his discontented wide-out A.J. Brown, but the philosophy goes across the board and Monday night’s 10-7 win over the Green Bay Packers was a perfect example of what Howie was talking about with regards to his Philadelphia Eagles.

Under the Lambeau Moon

If you like to play the “under” then this game was right in your wheelhouse.  A scoreless game at the half with neither team cracking the red zone, while both offenses combining for 68 yards passing.  Nope, not a misprint and I haven’t had a drink yet.  It really was a nothing-nothing tie game after 30 minutes.

The Birds held Green Bay to one possession in the third quarter and took a 3-0 lead in the final stanza.

Philly Stars Were Shining

With 12:46 Phily took the ball at their own 20 yard line and gained three yards on two Saquon Barkley runs.  But two plays later the Eagles were in the end zone and why?  Because the Birds have more stars than most of their opponents and it’s usually just a matter of time until they strike.

On third down Jalen Hurts checked a pass down to Barkley in the left flat and his prize running back did the rest, dialing up a ridiculous spin move on Green Bay’s Carrington Valentine on his way to a 40-yard gain all the way to the Packers 36 yard line.  On the very next play Hurts hit Devonta Smith on a 36 yard corner-post route to give Philly a 10-0 lead with just over 10 minutes left in regulation.  Two play, 77 yards, a two-score lead.  Any questions?

Down to the Wire

The Packers scored on their next possession and miraculously had a chance to tie the game but Green Bay Kicker Brandon McManus missed a 64-yard attempt at the gun and the Eagles notched their seventh win of the season with a 10-7 victory as the Pack dropped to 5-3-1 on the year with their second home loss in the last eight days.
