The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles headed into Week 3’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams with hopes of improving to 3-0, knowing full well they would have their hands full facing Matthew Stafford‘s squad.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Rams were dominating in the first half, with Philadelphia seemingly having no answer for what head coach Sean McVay was throwing at them on both sides of the football. Los Angeles took a 19-7 lead into halftime, with Jalen Hurts and company looking deflated and scrambling for answers.
Eagles’ Incredible Late-Game Heroics to Stay Undefeated
The second half of Sunday’s game in Philadelphia was a different story. The Eagles’ offense got going with a pair of touchdowns from Dallas Goedert and A.J. Brown in the third quarter, and then Hurts connected with DeVonta Smith late in the fourth quarter, which set up a thrilling finish.
With the Rams down by one, McVay’s squad had a chance to seal the deal with a game-winning field goal by kicker Joshua Karty. Although it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Karty would put the 44-yard field goal through the uprights, the complete opposite happened with defensive tackle Jalen Carter blocking the field goal and defensive tackle Jordan Davis taking it the distance to score a 61-yard touchdown.
Jordan Davis Reflects on Game-Winning TD for Eagles
After the game, Davis spoke to the media and talked about the thrilling finish, which resulted in the Eagles winning a third straight game to start the 2025 NFL season.
“It came down to the technique and the fundamentals of everything,” Davis said. “A lot of people look at a field-goal block as just another play, just another down, put your hands up, get off the field and check a box, but the way we talked about it on the sideline, we knew, especially off his last kick, we knew his angle and we knew his launch point when it’s at the 30-yard line or somewhere around there and we just hit the gap, put our hands up at the right time and then I saw the ball on the ground.”
Davis didn’t hesitate when he realized the football was loose, as he scooped it up with ease and turned on the jets to show he’s got some wheels, even though he’s a big human being at 6’6″ and weighing 336 pounds.
“I didn’t know I was going to go that fast, and I didn’t know I was going to make it all the way to the end zone. I just started running and my legs carried me from there.”
“In a game? Probably not,” Davis said on if he’s run that fast in a game. “I haven’t run that fast since probably my combine. Shoot, I don’t know what miles per hour I hit, but I’m pretty sure it was something crazy!”
With this epic finish in the books, the defending champions will take their undefeated record into Week 4 on the road to face another tough NFC team in Baker Mayfield‘s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
