The 2025 season is nearly here, as things will kick off next Thursday when the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Dallas Cowboys in a clash of NFC East rivals. The Eagles are coming off a dominant Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, and they have made it clear that they have their sights set on repeating as champions this year.
With a slew of talented players at their disposal, many of whom helped them win it all last season, Philadelphia will have as good a chance as any recent Super Bowl champion when it comes to repeating. Ahead of their season-opener, the Eagles issued a big announcement revealing who their captains for the upcoming season will be.
Eagles Reveal Their 2025 Captains
Philly’s path to a title in 2024 wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. In order to get there, they had to endure the heartbreak of losing Super Bowl LVII to the Chiefs in 2022, before collapsing in spectacular fashion down the stretch of the 2023 campaign. After a 2-2 start last season, there were serious questions about what the Eagles’ future looked like.
After an early bye week in Week 5, Philadelphia returned and proceeded to lose only one game the rest of the season, and that was a game in which star quarterback Jalen Hurts was unable to play due to a concussion. With a dominant front seven on defense and the best rushing attack in the league, the Eagles imposed their will on their opponents, and it’s telling that their two best games of the season came in the NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl.
Entering the 2025 campaign, it’s tough to say that there’s another team with a more talented roster than Philly. The majority of their starters from last year’s squad are back, with that continuity bound to help them in their quest to repeat. Sure, they will have a bigger target on their back, but that didn’t matter at all the last time we saw them on the field.
Beyond that, the Eagles have a strong group of leaders in place who will help keep the team in line throughout their grind of a season. Ahead of Week 1, the team officially revealed its captains for the upcoming season, as Jake Elliott, Jalen Hurts, Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata, A.J. Brown, Zack Baun, Saquon Barkley, and Reed Blankenship have earned this prestigious honor for their squad.

Every season, the team that is fresh off winning the Super Bowl is typically billed as the favorite to win it. There’s a reason why so few teams ever end up completing their repeat quest. Everybody is looking up at the Eagles right now, which means they are going to have to work harder than ever before to continue winning on a regular basis.
As we saw last season, though, when Philadelphia is executing its game plan on both sides of the ball, they are incredibly difficult to beat. Repeating is going to be tough, and the NFC is loaded with Super Bowl-caliber teams. But if there’s anyone that appears capable of going back-to-back, it’s the Eagles.
