Eagles Made ‘Strong Play’ for Micah Parsons, Adam Schefter Reveals

Even if the Dallas Cowboys were never going to trade Micah Parsons within their division, Howie Roseman needed to try.

According to ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles VP of football operations and general manager called Jerry Jones to try and lure the four-time Pro Bowl EDGE rusher to Philly before Dallas traded him to the Green Bay Packers last week.

Roseman is, of course, a wizard-like manipulator of talent via trades, one of the best to ever do so in NFL history.

Why Did The Eagles Call The Cowboys About Micah Parsons?

Roseman never seems to miss an opportunity to make the Eagles better. He signed Saquon Barkley away from the New York Giants and remade linebacker Zack Baun into an All-Pro after he was released by the New Orleans Saints after the 2023 season.

But Roseman’s superpower is pulling off trades. He acquired then-disgruntled wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Tennessee Titans at the 2022 draft then moved up twice to select Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith in the first round of the 2023 draft — after the Eagles represented the NFC in the Super Bowl that year.

He even traded up at the 2020 NFL Draft, with the Cowboys, to acquire the pick used for wideout DeVonta Smith.

So even though Carter, Smith and starting defensive tackle Jordan Davis are all back after wreaking havoc on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, Roseman still made a strong pursuit of the two-time All-Pro, according to Schefter.

“Philadelphia called Dallas to try to acquire Parsons, but the Cowboys had no interest in trading the two-time All-Pro pass rusher within their own division — especially to the rival Eagles, sources told Schefter,” ESPN reported Thursday.

The Cowboys passed on any potential offer from Philadelphia, landing two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark from the Packers for Parsons.

Roseman reportedly tried to prey on Parsons’ ties to Pennsylvania, since he grew up in the capital Harrisburg and played at Penn State. His agent, David Mulugheta, pushed back against both factors when he made an appearance on ESPN on Tuesday.

“He grew up cheering for the Cowboys, wore the blue and white at Penn State, wore it in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys,” Mulugheta said. “He wanted to be a Cowboy, and we did everything we could for him to remain a Cowboy.”

What Would The Eagles Have To Give Up For a Micah Parsons Trade?

Eagles fans, and Roseman as well, may end up feeling grateful the deal wouldn’t go throw, since any negotiations likely would have included either Carter or Smith.

Carter, 24, was a second-team All-Pro and qualified for the Pro Bowl a season ago before netting two sacks, a forced fumble and three passes defended in the playoffs.

Smith, who like Carter played at collegiately at Georgia and was a first-round pick in 2023, had 6.5 sacks, 11 quarterback hits and two fumble recoveries in his breakout campaign, 2024. He then added an NFL-best four sacks in the playoffs, helping the Eagles win their second Super Bowl championship in team history.

Then the Eagles would have had to lock in Parsons to a contract like the four-year, $186 million deal the Packers signed him to — the largest contract of any non-quarterback in NFL history.
