Eagles Missing Offensive Firepower in Super Bowl Rematch

The Philadelphia Eagles are going to be down several key offensive weapons for their Super Bowl rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2 at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Eagles inactives report listed running back Will Shipley, tight end Dallas Goedert, offensive lineman Drew Kendall, defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo and edge rusher Azeez Ojulari.

Quarterback Tanner McKee was listed as the team’s emergency third quarterback after he missed Week 1 with a thumb injury.

Shipley looked effective in the season opener with 3 carries for 26 yards in a win over the Dallas Cowboys.

After missing 7 games due to injuries in 2024, Goedert is once again dealing with injury issues with a sprained knee.

“Eagles TE Dallas Goedert (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero wrote on September 12.

In Goedert’s place, the Eagles will turn to fourth year tight end Grant Calcaterra. In 2024, Calcaterra played in all 17 games with 13 starts to go with 24 receptions for 298 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Eagles tried desperately to trade Goedert this offseason but eventually brought back after he took a pay cut — surprising considering he still ranked among the Top 10 players at his position in ESPN’s annual preseason position rankings.

Goedert came in at No. 9, which is down 2 spots from 2024 but still carries a tremendous amount of value to the Eagles and their offensive plans as they try to win a second consecutive Super Bowl and third title in the last decade.

The Eagles had a mini bye before facing the Chiefs after defeating the Cowboys, 24-20, in the NFL regular season opener on Thursday Night Football.

Kansas City’s 2024 first round pick, wide receiver Xavier Worthy, scored 2 touchdowns against the Eagles in the Super Bowl but is out for Week 2 after suffering a separated shoulder in a season opening loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil.
