Eagles Player Ejected After Brawl In Win Over Commanders

Tensions were running high in a divisional matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders. And late in the fourth quarter, a fight broke out that led to three players getting ejected.

The Eagles had a 19-point lead after a successful two-point conversion when Commanders defenders Javon Kinlaw and Quan Martin started getting into it with Philadelphia offensive lineman Tyler Steen.

“This has turned into a full-blown shoving match,” play-by-play broadcaster Joe Davis said (per the Inquirer). “Tyler Steen is throwing punches.”

“We’ve got flags, we’ve got hats,” Analyst Greg Olsen added.

“There are no flags left in the belts,” Davis responded. “They’re all on the field.”

All were flagged for unnecessary roughness and ultimately disqualified with 4:26 remaining in the game.

Fines are expected to come from the NFL following this incident.

After the game, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn was asked about the Eagles decision to go for two points.

“If that’s how they want to get down, all good,” he responded. “We play them again in two weeks.”

Saquon Barkley Keeps It Real About Eagles-Commanders Fight

“We got to be better. We got to be smart,” Barkley said about the altercation when speaking with reporters. “I got to be smart. I shouldn’t put myself in that situation.”

“You get to do two or three punches at a helmet,” he added. “Hopefully you don’t break a hand just to say you’re a tough guy. It’s not worth it. And you lose a lot of money too. So we’ve got to be better there.”

However, despite this small incident, it was still a nice night for Barkley who’s efforts on Saturday allowed him to hit over 1,000 yards rushing this season. Specifically, it came with 12:15 remaining in the game as Hurts handed the ball to Barkley who ran for eight yards.

He finished the night with 132 yards on 21 carries and one touchdown, with this also being his third 100-yard game of the season.

“Any time you can rush for 1,000 yards, it’s a big deal.,” Barkley said (via Deleware Online). “The year hasn’t gone, statistically-wise, like (it went) last year for even what I would have predicted … But sometimes that’s how the game goes. My mindset is I can still can have the impact on the season that I want to. That’s finishing this season strong, and going into the playoffs. That’s when it really matters most.”

Eagles Clinch NFC East Again

For the first time in two decades, the Eagles won their second consecutive NFC East title with a win over the Commanders.

The team celebrated wearing “been there, won that” shirts along with a hat to celebrate the victory.

“These times, they’re rare times,” quarterback Jalen Hurts said after the game (via The Athletic’s Zach Berman). “It’s something we all need to soak in and relish in this moment right now and take it a day time as we always have, but keep the main thing the main thing. That’s what we’ve done for five years, since everybody’s collectively been here.”

And with that, here’s the current NFC Playoff picture:

  1. Seattle Seahawks (12-3)
  2. Chicago Bears (10-4)
  3. Philadelphia Eagles (10-5)
  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-7)
  5. Los Angeles Rams (11-4)
  6. San Francisco 49ers (10-4)
  7. Green Bay Packers (9-4-1)
