The Philadelphia Eagles lost their second game of the week on Black Friday, as the Chicago Bears took them down by a score of 24-15 to drop their record to 8-4 on the season. Once again, the Eagles’ offense struggled to find any sort of consistency, with Jalen Hurts‘ poor play under center playing a big role in this defeat.
One of the most important plays of the game saw Hurts lose a fumble on Philadelphia’s controversial “Tush Push” play. Considering how the Eagles are nearly automatic when it comes to their execution of this play, losing the football entirely was a huge blow for Philly, and after the game, Hurts shed light on this costly miscue.
Jalen Hurts Addresses Tush Push Fumble
Several major problems flared up for the Eagles in this game. Their offense couldn’t put points on the board, and the defense was torched by the Bears’ running back duo of D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai. And yet, Philadelphia still had a very good shot to come out on top in this one when all was said and done.
Midway through the third quarter, with Chicago leading 10-9, Jalyx Hunt intercepted Caleb Williams, giving the Eagles’ offense the ball at the Bears’ 36-yard line. With Philly scoring its first touchdown of the day on the previous drive, it seemed like everything was lining up for them to take the lead for the first time in this game.
Instead, on 3rd & 1 from Chicago’s 12-yard line, Philadelphia went back to the “Tush Push,” but the result didn’t go its way. Bears’ cornerback Nahshon Wright ripped the ball out of Hurts’ hands before the referees ruled his forward progress had been stopped, thwarting what appeared to be a potent drive for the Eagles. When discussing the play, Hurts admitted that it’s on him to do a better job protecting the football in these situations.
“I was hoping (my forward progress) was stopped, but it wasn’t,” Hurts said after the game. “(The referees) just didn’t blow the whistle as soon. That’s not to point the finger at anyone else, I gotta hold onto the ball.”

After recovering this fumble, the Bears promptly went down the field and scored touchdowns on their next two drives to put this game out of reach. You can never blame one player for the loss of an entire team, but it’s clear Hurts was not at his best in this one. He struggled with his accuracy throughout the game, and he also threw a costly interception earlier in the third quarter.
The good news for Philadelphia is that it’s still in control of the NFC East division for the time being, but with the Dallas Cowboys getting hot, its margin for error is quickly disappearing. The Eagles will have to put this one behind them quickly, as they have another tough contest against the Los Angeles Chargers waiting for them in Week 14.
