The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t exactly played a perfect game yet in 2025, but they are still undefeated heading into Week 4. However, they will be taking on another undefeated team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when they take the field next, which means they are going to have to be at their best if they intend on pushing their record to 4-0.
Throughout the season, the Eagles have become notorious for constantly tinkering with their roster, and that is continuing now that the new campaign is well underway. On Tuesday, it reportedly led them to reuniting with cornerback Eli Ricks, who the team released from its practice squad earlier this month.
Eagles Re-Sign Cornerback Eli Ricks
Ricks didn’t get selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he still managed to find his way to the Eagles as an undrafted free agent. Surprisingly, Ricks ended up cracking Philadelphia’s 53-man roster in 2023, and he ended up playing in 16 games, racking up 19 tackles and three pass deflections during his time on the field.
In 2024, Ricks didn’t play as much for Philly, as he suited up for only seven games, picking up just two tackles during his time on the field. Still, he won his first championship with the Eagles when they destroyed the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX, but it was clear that his standing with the team was up in the air.
Sure enough, Ricks got released in August as part of Philadelphia’s roster cuts. He quickly returned to their practice, only to get released on Sept. 10. His time away from the team didn’t last long, though, as the Eagles brought Ricks back to town in an effort to shore up their secondary, signing him to their practice squad ahead of their matchup with the Bucs.
“The Eagles are set to sign cornerback Eli Ricks to their practice squad, sources tell
CBS Sports,” Matt Zenitz shared in a post on X. “A return to Philadelphia for Ricks, who played in 23 games for the Eagles the last two seasons.”

The Eagles are only signing Ricks to their practice squad, so the chances of him suiting up immediately are low. With Adoree’ Jackson dealing with a groin injury that forced him out of Philly’s Week 3 comeback win over the Los Angeles Rams, though, having an extra layer of insurance doesn’t hurt, especially when it comes in the form of a guy who has played in 23 games over the past two seasons for the team.
Regardless of whether or not Ricks is elevated to the active roster, Philadelphia’s goal of earning win No. 4 is going to be difficult, as they will be taking on a gritty Tampa Bay team. While the Buccaneers are battered with injuries, that hasn’t stopped them from winning each of their first three games, setting the stage for an exciting matchup. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, and only one of these teams will be able to continue their undefeated season.
