The Philadelphia Eagles are arguably the best team in the NFL currently. Fresh off a victory in Super Bowl LIX, they have raced out to a 4-0 start, making them one of only two undefeated teams in the league. There are several reasons for their success, with one of them being their front office’s ability to consistently find talented players to take the field for them.
Led by general manager Howie Roseman, the Eagles have made an almost laughable number of roster moves since winning a championship last season. On Friday, Roseman’s propensity for always trying to put together the best team possible reached new heights, as he ended up signing a pair of players that he released just on Thursday. The two players he cut to make room for them were the ones the team signed on Thursday to replace the outgoing players.
Eagles Re-Sign Eli Ricks, Antwaun Powell-Ryland to Their Practice Squad
If that process sounds confusing, let’s break it down a bit more. On Thursday, the Eagles released cornerback Eli Ricks and linebacker Antwaun Powell-Ryland from their practice squad, replacing them with defensive tackle Jacob Sykes and defensive end K.J. Henry. All four of these guys have spent time with Philadelphia’s practice squad at one point or another, so it seemed like the team simply wanted to reinforce its depth at a couple of different spots.
On Friday, though, Roseman essentially pressed the undo button on this pair of roster moves. The Eagles released both Sykes and Henry and ended up re-signing Ricks and Powell-Ryland to the practice squad. For both Hicks and Powell-Ryland, this process is basically their life, as they have both been cut and re-signed to the practice squad several times this season.
Every team in the NFL wants to put together the best roster possible, but Roseman is on another level when it comes to his quest for perfection. So, just one day after being released, Ricks and Powell-Ryland are back in town, while Sykes and Henry find themselves in the same position they were in just over 24 hours ago.

The chances of any of these four guys finding their way onto the field for the Eagles in the near future are slim, but in the event the team needs help at these spots, Roseman is going to ensure they are covered. Even if it means pulling off a mind-boggling pair of moves like this one, Roseman is always operating in the best interests of the team.
In terms of more important news for Philadelphia, the team has a Week 5 clash against the Denver Broncos that will capture its full attention over the next two days. The Broncos are 2-2, but they are a tough playoff-caliber team that could give the Eagles some trouble. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
