The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a catastrophic loss on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 6 of the 2025 NFL campaign, as the one-win New York Giants handed them a 34-17 loss. Making matters worse, disgruntled wide receiver A.J. Brown offered some controversial comments after the game that only threw his future with the team further into doubt.
Earlier in the week, a report emerged indicating that Brown held a meeting with quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley to discuss the state of Philly’s offense. While Hurts and Barkley acknowledged the meeting happened, Brown cryptically denied it on Thursday night. With his reply going viral, Brown quickly addressed the situation on Friday.
A.J. Brown Clears the Air on Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley Meeting
The Eagles just won Super Bowl LIX less than a year ago, but there appears to be trouble in paradise. This isn’t necessarily the first time Brown has seen his name pop up in trade rumors due to Philadelphia’s run-heavy style of offense, but with things not changing for the better, these rumors simply will not die.
Brown turned in one of his better games of the young season against the Giants, catching six passes for 80 yards, but the offense as a whole feels off. Hurts is trying to get Brown and fellow star wide receiver DeVonta Smith involved, but he has struggled to do so. Part of that is likely due to the struggles of the run game, as Saquon Barkley is averaging more than two yards fewer per carry than he did last season.
Brown’s strange reluctance to discuss his meeting with Hurts and Barkley when they both admitted it took place only added more fuel to the fire. With the situation snowballing, Brown decided to step in and explain what he meant, saying he did meet with Hurts and Barkley, but that it was not the sort of meeting that it was painted out to be.
“Just to clear this up. That wasn’t a meeting or a sit-down,” Brown said in a post on X. “I said ‘I don’t recall’ because it got painted like there was tension and Sa had to step in. That’s not true. I was walking to my car, saw them, and stopped to talk. Nothing more.”
What Should the Eagles Do with A.J. Brown?

The lack of involvement on offense for Brown is strange because he’s turned himself into one of the top wide receivers in the league during his first three seasons with the Eagles. Hurts is trying to get him the ball, but the big plays that have often been there for him throughout his career have simply not materialized to this point.
Philadelphia has shown no interest in trading Brown to this point, but he’s clearly frustrated with how the season has started for him. Chances are the Eagles are going to hold onto him and attempt to fix their offense, but if the situation continues to spiral, a trade could become a realistic option. For now, the Eagles will enjoy a couple of extra days off before turning their attention towards their Week 7 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.
