The Premier League Transfer of the Season award has been brought in and there are eight players in contention to win the first edition.

There were some massive deals done last summer, chiefly by Liverpool who signed Alexander Isak for £125m and Florian Wirtz for £100m.

Neither of those players are troubling the Transfer of the Season nominations.

There was also big money spent by Newcastle United, who forked out £65m on Nick Woltemade, £55m on Anthony Elanga and £50m on Yoane Wissa.

That trio is also not represented on the shortlist for the new prize.

Of the eight players nominated for the award, some were costly, while others have proved to be very cheap signings and one was even a free transfer.

Here are the eight nominees and how to vote for the Premier League Transfer of the Season.

Manchester City have two nominees in Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki, with Semenyo only signing in January but making a huge impact since then.

The 26-year-old arrived from Bournemouth for a reported £64m and has scored seven goals in 17 games for City since then, having netted 10 times for the Cherries in the first half of the season.

Cherki signed from Lyon in June for £30m and has become a favourite for the neutrals with his stylish, eccentric style of play.

Adrien Truffert is a lesser known name on the list after joining Bournemouth from Rennes last summer for around £14.4m.

The France international was brought in to replace Milos Kerkez and has done so brilliantly, playing in all 38 Premier League games.

Another bargain deal was Granit Xhaka moving to Sunderland from Bayer Leverkusen for just £13m and has played a big role in their qualification for Europe next season.

None of the eight signings were better value than Dominic Calvert-Lewin, though, who joined Leeds United on a free transfer after leaving Everton.

The England international scored 14 league goals to help the Yorkshire side stay up and at just 29 years old, it looks a sensational move for Leeds.

Viktor Gyokeres was one of the headline-grabbing transfer sagas of last summer and he has repaid Arsenal’s faith in him with 14 Premier League goals and 21 in all competitions.

The Swede cost £63m from Sporting last summer and is now a Premier League champion.

Chelsea spent £55m on Joao Pedro from Brighton last year, with the Brazilian scoring 15 league goals and 20 in all competitions.

Finally, Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens arrived from Royal Antwerp for just over £18m and has quickly looked at home and assured for the Red Devils.
