England will be without Ollie Watkins for their trip to Latvia on Tuesday night as the striker has withdrawn from the squad due to injury.
The Aston Villa forward started and scored in the Three Lions’ 3-0 win over Wales in a friendly at Wembley on Thursday.
He was forced off at half-time, though, after suffering a painful injury when he collided with the post.
As he tried to poke home a low cross from the right into an open goal, Watkins miscued his shot and then hit the post with some force, leaving him clearly in a lot of pain on the ground.
England boss Thomas Tuchel said after the game: ‘He’s ok. It was a clear goal normally for him but unfortunately he saw the ball too late and couldn’t score and crashed into the post.

‘It was very, very painful, but as I understood it now it’s only painful so no harm done.’
However, it has now been confirmed that Watkins will not be involved in the World Cup qualifier against Latvia.
England posted on Monday morning: ‘Ollie Watkins has been ruled out of tomorrow’s @FIFAWorldCup qualifier against Latvia, having not recovered from the knock sustained against Wales.’
‘Speedy recovery, Ollie!’
Aston Villa travel to take on Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday and will hope their striker has recovered by then.
Watkins was starting against Wales in place of captain Harry Kane who missed the match with a minor ankle problem.
However, he is expected to play against Latvia, with Tuchel saying before the Wales game: ‘Harry will miss the game, he got a kick in his last match and it is too painful to kick the ball and too risky for him.
‘We give him the chance for it calm down and we are convinced he will be ready for Latvia.’
Kane has been in stunning form this season, scoring 13 goals in his last seven matches for Bayern Munich.
The current England squad is not awash with strikers, with Tuchel having the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Gordon as other options up front.
