Ex-Browns Receiver Dumped by New Team

Former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Elijah Moore is looking for a new job after being let go by the Buffalo Bills.

Moore appeared in nine games for Buffalo this season, making two starts after signing a one-year, $2.5 million fully guaranteed deal that could have reached $5 million with incentives. He managed just nine catches for 112 yards and failed to score a touchdown. The Bills recently added veteran Brandin Cooks, who is expected to take over Moore’s spot on the depth chart.

Moore spent the previous two seasons with the Browns, where he was decently productive. In all, Moore caught 120 passes for 1,178 yards and three touchdowns over 34 games in Cleveland.

Moore is now looking for a new job. A reunion in Cleveland would not be surprising, considering the team’s lack of depth at the position and Moore’s familiarity with the offense.

Browns Receivers Have Struggled This Season

The Browns’ passing game has been rough for most of the season, due mostly to instability at quarterback. Jerry Jeudy has been the Browns’ No. 1 wide receiver but hasn’t produced at the Pro Bowl level the team was expecting. Jeudy has just 32 catches for 395 yards with one touchdown this season.

Jeudy was under fire following Sunday’s win against the Las Vegas Raiders. He had just one catch that went for 39 yards. On the catch and run, Jeudy slowed down while surrounded by defenders and got the ball punched out.

“I was trying to make a play,” Jeudy said on Wednesday. “I saw three defenders right, I was (gonna) cut cross field. Ain’t feel him behind me. Simple as that.”

Outside of Jeudy, the Browns have leaned on Cedric Tillman and rookie Isaiah Bond. Tillman, a big-bodied target, has missed time with an injury but provides a physical presence when healthy. Bond has flashed his potential with his top-end speed, offering a different element to the receiving corps.

Rookie tight end Harold Fannin currently leads the Browns with 48 receptions for 462 yards.

Browns Rolling With Shedeur Sanders at QB

The Browns are hoping Shedeur Sanders can be the answer at quarterback moving forward. Jeudy is trying not to worry too much about things beyond his control.

“I just keep being me,” Jeudy said. “I can’t control nothing but myself honestly — I just keep running routes, get open, do it. That’s all I can do. I can’t really tell you nothing else.”

Sanders is trying to earn a long-term spot with the Browns. He was solid in his debut against the Raiders, passing for 209 yards, completing 11 of 20 passes with a touchdown and an interception. Sanders and the offense will get a stiffer test against the 49ers in Week 13.

“They’re a well-coached team, honestly,” Sanders said. “They rush the passer very good. They’re great in coverage. They have great disguises overall. They know how to get pressure on the quarterback, so they’re great all around defense. We know they’re going to have something different cooking for us. But even having this opportunity to go out there and study them and be able to go on the field is cool. I’m just thankful for it.”

Sanders and the Browns are 6.5-point underdogs at home for the matchup.
