Ex-Clippers Guard in Hot Water After Arrest in Texas

Former Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley, one of the franchise’s most memorable defensive voices during the “Grit Clippers” era, was arrested in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge, according to TMZ Sports. The report alleges Beverley assaulted a family or household member and engaged in conduct that impeded the victim’s breath or circulation, a serious felony under Texas law.

Beverley reportedly posted a $40,000 bond and is expected to be released later Friday.

The development comes at a time when the Clippers organization — and star forward Kawhi Leonard — are navigating renewed scrutiny amid the team’s recent controversies and questions surrounding salary cap circumvention.

Clippers Fans Remember Beverley as the Emotional Engine of LA’s Defense

Beverley spent four high-intensity seasons with the Clippers (2017–2021), arriving in the blockbuster trade that sent Chris Paul to Houston. Alongside Leonard and Paul George, and the roster assembled for the Clippers’ title pursuits, Beverley became the emotional heartbeat of the team.

While in Los Angeles, Beverley helped the Clippers reach the Western Conference Finals in 2021, the first in franchise history. He became a fan favorite for his relentless defense and trash-talk.

The fiesty former NBA guard averaged 8.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and provided elite perimeter pressure for the Clippers.

Earned league-wide recognition for his ability to defend larger wings and star guards, his fiery presence remains one of the defining images of the Clippers’ shift into a defensive-minded contender.

Felony Arrest Adds to Tumultuous Stretch Since Leaving Clippers

Beverley has not appeared in an NBA game since May 2, 2024, when he was with the Milwaukee Bucks during the postseason. That night ended in controversy when Beverley became involved in a heated altercation with Indiana Pacers fans, striking a woman in the head with a basketball and later throwing the ball at another fan.

The NBA suspended him for four games, a penalty he has not yet served. Meanwhile, the Pacers fans filed a civil lawsuit alleging “physical pain,” emotional trauma, humiliation, medical expenses, and lost wages.

After failing to secure a new NBA contract, Beverley signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli Basketball League. That stint also ended abruptly when the team suspended him in February and later cut ties.

Klay Thompson Recently Called Out Beverley Over Comments About Megan Thee Stallion

The arrest comes just days after Dallas Mavericks star Klay Thompson publicly called out Beverley for comments made on the Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ Podcast.

Beverley and former NBA guard Jason Williams used explicit language while suggesting that dating a powerful woman can impact a player’s performance. Thompson condemned the comments as disrespectful.

“Referring to my girlfriend as a ‘p*y’ is disgusting and disturbing,”** Thompson wrote. “How would y’all feel if I referred to your wives that way? Do better.”

Beverley’s Future in Basketball Looks Increasingly Uncertain

With a felony charge, a pending lawsuit, and an unserved NBA suspension, Beverley’s future — whether in the NBA, overseas, or in media — is now in serious jeopardy.

The former Clippers guard has not publicly commented on the arrest.
