Ex-Clippers Guard’s Alleged Assault Detailed in Affidavit

Former Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley is facing disturbing new allegations in Texas after a probable-cause affidavit obtained by TMZ Sports accused him of choking and punching his younger sister during a confrontation earlier this month. Beverley has denied the claims and says the situation has been misrepresented.

Beverley, 37, was arrested in Fort Bend County, Texas, and charged with third-degree felony assault of a family or household member by impeding breath — a serious charge that can carry up to 10 years in prison.

The allegations have drawn attention across Los Angeles, where Beverley was once a fan favorite for his defensive intensity, toughness, and fiery leadership during the Clippers’ 2017–2021 run.

Affidavit Outlines Violent Encounter at Family Home

According to documents obtained by TMZ Sports, the incident took place on Nov. 14, when Beverley’s sister allegedly left home without permission to meet her boyfriend at a nearby park. When she returned, her mother instructed her to call the boyfriend back to the residence — and then called Beverley.

The affidavit states that when Beverley arrived, he allegedly confronted his sister before grabbing her by the neck with both hands and lifting her off the ground, causing her feet to leave the floor. Beverley’s sister told police she felt pain and believed she was losing oxygen.

She claimed Beverley then dragged her out of the bedroom by the neck, slammed her into the walls in an open room, placed her on a sofa, and punched her in the left eye. She also alleged he told her he would be the “family relative to kill her.”

Responding officers documented visible marks on her neck and petechiae — burst blood vessels often associated with strangulation — in her eyes.

Beverley was taken into custody and booked into the county jail.

Beverley Pushes Back, Says Story Is Misrepresented

After posting $40,000 bail, Beverley addressed the situation publicly on X (formerly Twitter).

“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv❤️🙏🏾,” Beverley wrote.

His attorney later issued a detailed statement defending him:

“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister — a minor,” the statement read. “When he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he reacted as any protective brother would. However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described. We look forward to addressing this in court.”

Beverley is expected to appear before a judge in the coming weeks.

Clippers Fans Remember Beverley’s Impact in L.A.

He was a key figure in the era that featured Kawhi LeonardPaul GeorgeLou Williams, Montrezl Harrell, and Patrick Patterson, earning a reputation for defensive toughness, leadership, and emotional intensity.

Beverley’s Recent Controversies

Before his arrest, Beverley made headlines for a controversial podcast exchange in which he and former NBA player Jason Williams referenced Klay Thompson’s girlfriend, rapper Megan Thee Stallion, using crude language. Thompson later blasted the comments as “disgusting and disturbing.”

Beverley also faced a civil lawsuit stemming from an altercation during the 2024 playoffs, when—while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks—he threw a basketball into the stands and struck a fan. The NBA suspended him for four games, which he has not yet served.
