Ex-Giants QB Tommy DeVito Sends Brutal Message to Former Team Before Patriots Game

He was a cult hero during his time with the New York Giants, but Tommy DeVito is wishing his former employers anything but the best when they visit Gillette Stadium to face the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football in Week 13.

In fact, Pats third-stringer passer DeVito delivered a brutal message to Big Blue ahead of the game on December 1. DeVito put it bluntly, “I loved my time there. When I was there, it was, Go Giants‘ but now it’s ‘Go Pats’ all the way. I hope we blow them out,” per MassLive.com’s Karen Guregian.

Most Giants fans will likely appreciate those words simply represent the spirit of a true competitor taking control of DeVito’s emotions. What may be tougher for the Giants’ faithful to forgive is DeVito revealing, “I can help player breakdowns and give my two cents here and there. I’ll help in any way I can.”

Some are likely to be uncomfortable seeing the former fan favorite dubbed ‘Tommy Cutlets’ playing spy for the enemy. Yet, DeVito isn’t the only member of the Patriots whose inside knowledge should worry the Giants.

Giants Face Scouting Problem vs. Patriots

The Giants and interim head coach Mike Kafka should expect to arrive in New England having already been scouted to a greater degree than usual. DeVito’s familiarity with Kafka’s offense will help the Patriots prepare, as will the former undrafted free agent’s intel on key Giants wide receivers like Wan’Dale Robinson, who’s playing his best football in a contract year.

It was Robinson who wished DeVito well when the latter wound up on the roster bubble last offseason. DeVito earned the respect of teammates like Robinson by winning three-straight starts in 2023, including throwing a trio of touchdowns against NFC East rivals the Washington Commanders.

He soon attracted a cult following, but DeVito now finds himself helping another former Giant gameplan for Kafka and Co. Patriots interim defensive coordinator Zak Kuhr was on the staff for the Giants during the 2024 campaign, and he acknowledged “Tommy’s been helpful. Just with the looks on the field, he’s been helpful, but he’s helpful every week,” per Guregian.

Kuhr also called out some changes for the Giants since Kafka replaced the fired Brian Daboll. As Kuhr put it, “There’s a little (carryover), but you can definitely see some change from when I was there, to this year.”

Changing the familiar blueprint will be vital for Kafka when the Patriots are so well-versed in how the Giants have operated in recent years. Fortunately, the return of Big Blue’s QB1 can alter the formula enough to keep Kuhr and DeVito guessing.

Tommy DeVito Exit Was Part of Giants’ QB Overhaul

The Giants cut DeVito loose because they had already completely overhauled their depth chart at football’s most important position. A necessary refresh began by signing veteran signal-callers Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson in free agency, before the Giants doubled down by trading up to select Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.

Dart is back from a concussion and set to face the Pats on Monday night, when his mobility and aggressive play style can give the Giants an edge. He’ll move the pocket, make plays with his legs and throw on the run, but Dart would be wise to lean more on a hidden matchup advantage for the Giants.

Fully exploiting small areas where they can surprise the Patriots is how the Giants spring what would be a major upset against a 10-2 team on the road.
