No longer can the words Tommy Fleetwood and “never won on the PGA Tour” be used in the same sentence. Heavy Sports got an up-close look at Fleetwood’s historic Tour Championship win as seemingly all of the East Lake patrons were rooting for the golfer despite American Patrick Cantlay remaining in contention until the very end.
Chants of “Tom-my, Tom-my” rang out at every grandstand Fleetwood passed by on Sunday. The video below was taken just feet away from Fleetwood’s final tee shot on the 18th hole. Fleetwood flushed the tee shot and went on to hold onto a 3-stroke lead on Cantlay to win the tournament.
The golfer became the first athlete to notch his initial victory during the Tour Championship at East Lake, per ESPN.

Tommy Fleetwood Became First Golfer to Notch His First Win at Tour Championship
Fleetwood has become a fan favorite after so many close calls on Sundays. Most recently, Fleetwood was overtaken by Keegan Bradley’s late surge to once again finish in second place at the Travelers Championship back in June.
Despite his lack of wins, Fleetwood remained optimistic that he could be victorious heading into the final round at East Lake.
“You want to be in the final group on Sunday or you want to be in contention,” Fleetwood told reporters on August 23, 2025, on the eve of his first victory. “I love the fact that I’m playing so well. I love the fact that I’m getting rewarded for my work by being in this position because we all grind so hard, we all practice so hard, but it’s been so long where you don’t get out of it what you put it. Golf just isn’t like that.
“I love that I’m up there again, and it’s just another chance. It’s another opportunity. It’s another day where I get to go out and do what I love and enjoy it and be in contention and just go and hit the golf shots, and what is like the best pressure, if you like. We’re trying to win a golf tournament and do something very special.”
