Falcons Cut Veteran To Make Room For Former Top Ten Draft Pick

The Atlanta Falcons announced an exciting activation Saturday morning while the world watched the College Football Playoffs. Veteran return specialist Jamal Agnew was waived to make room for former top-ten draft pick C.J. Henderson, multiple sources report.

“The #Falcons are waiving veteran returner Jamal Agnew, sources say. Agnew has returned 45 combined kicks and punts for Atlanta this season but was inactive for the team’s last game against the #Buccaneers,” Mike Garafolo reported in an X post.

Meanwhile, the #Falcons are signing CB C.J. Henderson to the active roster, sources tell me and @RapSheet,” Garafolo added.

The 5-9 Falcons will have a great opportunity to continue building on last Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a road trip to Glendale to take on the 3-11 Arizona Cardinals.

C.J. Henderson’s Rocky NFL Career

Henderson was the ninth overall draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars, he heard his name called before players like Tristan Wirfs, Justin Jefferson, and Ceedee Lamb.

Perhaps most notable of all, Henderson was picked seven spots ahead of his now-running mate, A.J. Terrell.

He made eight appearances for the Jaguars in his rookie year, and only two the following season, before he was traded to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a third-round pick.

Henderson remained with the Panthers until 2023, when his rookie contract expired.

In 2024, he was on the Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Texans practice squads, but was never elevated to an active roster.

That was the case for the 27-year-old this season as well, but after 15 weeks on the Falcons’ practice squad, he earns his first elevation of the season.
