The Atlanta Falcons are set to return to action after enjoying their bye week in Week 5, and they will immediately face a tough challenge, as they will be taking on the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. For a Falcons team that is attempting to prove they are a playoff contender in the NFC, this game will provide them with an idea of where they stack up among the top teams in the league.
While the Bills are 4-1, they aren’t perfect, as they were handed a 23-20 defeat by the New England Patriots last weekend. This time around, Atlanta will be attempting to hand Buffalo an upset loss, and if defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich can get his unit to slow down the reigning NFL MVP, Josh Allen, they could have a shot at coming out on top.
Jeff Ulbrich Discusses His Preparations for Josh Allen, Bills
A lot of teams in the NFL rely on their quarterbacks to keep their offense afloat, but there may not be a team more reliant on its quarterback than the Bills. Allen single-handedly keeps his team in games no matter the circumstances, and oftentimes, he finds a way to lead them to victory, whether it be with his pinpoint passing or his ability to make plays with his legs.
One guy who is quite familiar with Allen is Ulbrich, as he spent the past four seasons with the Jets, working as their defensive coordinator before being promoted to interim head coach last season after Robert Saleh got fired five games into the year. Ulbrich has prepared to play against Allen several times before, and he knows what he is capable of.
Atlanta has a talented defense, but Allen challenges teams like no other player in the league can. Ulbrich admitted that he’s gotten used to the preparation process that is required when going up against Allen and the Bills, and it typically involves sleepless nights as he attempts to figure out a way to slow him down.
“Being in the division for the last four years with him, I’ve gone up against this guy a lot and this team. You don’t get a lot of sleep on this week for a lot of reasons,” Ulbrich said on Thursday. “He just challenges you in so many ways. You can make an argument he’s the best football player in the NFL right now, offense, defense, otherwise. He’s tough.”

As if beating Buffalo wasn’t already tough enough, the team is going to have some extra pep in their step for this game against Atlanta after suffering a tough loss to New England. The Bills were sloppy throughout the game, and they will surely be looking to put together a more complete game against the Falcons.
Ulbrich’s familiarity with Allen could serve his team well for this game, as he knows what Allen likes to do under center. Whether or not it will be enough to help Atlanta pick up a victory, though, remains to be seen, as taking down the Bills is always easier said than done. With this game scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET on Monday night, Ulbrich will have an extra day to get his squad ready for this big primetime clash.
