Falcons’ Explosive Trio Climbs NFL.com Rankings

The Atlanta Falcons grabbed some attention this week after landing in NFL.com’s yearly 2025 NFL Triplets Rankings.

Coming in at #13 on the list, NFL Editor Gennaro Filice spotlighted Atlanta’s core pieces on offense.

Quarterback Michael Penix, running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Drake London.

Filice’s ranking might not put the Falcons among the NFL elite just yet, but the trio represents an intriguing and ascending group.

With Robinson and London breaking out last season, eyes now shift to Penix.

If Penix is able to put together a solid season, Atlanta ceiling will rise even higher.

Falcons Trio Have High Potential

The Falcons hold some serious potential as they enter the 2025 season sweepstakes.

Offensively, it is easy to see why.

Bijan Robinson gives the Falcons an electric, patient runner who was able to carve up defenses a season ago.

Robinson also made his first Pro Bowl appearance.

Meanwhile, as Filice highlighted, Drake London had a break-out season, posting a stat line of 100 receptions, for 1,271 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Together, both London and Robinson already look like rising stars for the Falcons.

However, the main variable of this trio is QB Michael Penix.

Filice makes note of this, highlighting what could be expected of Penix this season.

“Raheem Morris kept Michael Penix Jr. on the sideline for the entire preseason, so we haven’t seen the quarterback in live action since last winter. “During that three-game soft launch of the Penix era, the rookie flashed enticing arm talent, functional athleticism and infectious moxie,” said Filice.

In addition, although there was intrigue on the table, Penix still has a lot to prove.

“He completed just 58 percent of his passes with a 3:3 TD-to-INT ratio and 78.9 passer rating, showing his game was still far from refined,” said Filice.

With an important season on the horizon, the Falcons’ success will be largely due to this trio.

Atlanta’s Season Rides On Michael Penix

Anything and everything about the Falcons 2025 season circles back to Penix.

The Falcons are not in a rebuild anymore.

GM Terry Fontenot and the rest of the Falcons brass have been building this roster to compete.

Head Coach Raheem Morris has also said he hopes to have balance across all phases of his team.

But most of his visions won’t come into fruition unless Penix steps up in a big way.

The NFL is a quarterback league.

While both Robinson and London can still produce at a high level this season, the offense will be that much more deadly if their quarterback shows up.

Moreover, it won’t be easy for Penix to show up right away.

Falcons RT Kaleb McGary is now out for the season with a leg injury he sustained on the last day of training camp.

As Penix’ blindside protector, McGary will be missed and his absence will sting for Atlanta.

A #13 ranking by Gennaro Filice should definitely have Falcons fans believing in their squad.

But it also sends an obvious message.

This offensive trio, and Atlanta’s success, hinges on Penix.

If he is able to adjust quickly, the Falcons could be in play for a playoff spot.

But if he stumbles, the Falcons could find themselves hanging out with the middle pack of NFL teams.

The Falcons franchise bet big on Penix, and 2025 will reveal if that gamble pays off.
