The Atlanta Falcons fell to 4-8 after losing to the New York Jets in Week 13 of the NFL season. The loss to the previously two-win Jets marked yet another disastrous defeat for Atlanta, which still hasn’t figured out how to close games late under Raheem Morris in Year 2.
The Falcons held a 24-17 lead with under nine minutes to play before a 15-play, 65-yard Jets drive ended with a 10-yard Tyrod Taylor touchdown run to tie the game. Atlanta then ran just six plays in 49 seconds over its next two drives, producing nothing — the latter ending when Darnell Mooney couldn’t haul in a first-down catch that would’ve extended the drive and set up potential field-goal range.
That failure gave the Jets one final chance, and they used it, moving 19 yards in seven plays to set up 41-year-old Nick Folk for a 56-yard walk-off field goal to win 27-24.
With yet another demoralizing loss in a season full of them, some — including “Hometeam” Brandon Leak of 680 The Fan — are calling for a full-on fire sale, even suggesting the Falcons trade two of their best players: Bijan Robinson and Drake London.
Atlanta Radio Host Suggests Trading Bijan Robinson, Drake London for Falcons Rebuild
As frustrating as things already are for Falcons fans after losing six of their last seven games, hearing a local radio host suggest dealing away two franchise cornerstones probably isn’t making anyone feel better.
“Is it time to start trading some of your assets to just rebuild the team for the next regime?” Leak asked co-host John Michaels.
Michaels immediately pushed back: “Well, I’m not trading those guys.”
Leak countered by questioning the long-term outlook of the team: “You don’t think they don’t want Bijan Robinson in Kansas City? … Do you think the Falcons are going to be in the Super Bowl next year? Year after, do you think they’re going to be the most dominating team in football? What about the year after that?”
Both Leak and Michaels said they wouldn’t be surprised if Morris returned for another season, noting they don’t believe owner Arthur Blank will move on just yet. Firing Morris would put Atlanta on track to hire its third head coach in six years.
Raheem Morris Should Be On Hot Seat
Year 2 under Raheem Morris was supposed to show major progress. Instead, the Falcons look poised to finish worse than they did the year before. In 2024, Morris’ first season, Atlanta went 8-9 and narrowly missed the playoffs. Now sitting at 4-8 with five games remaining, the 2025 season could completely unravel — potentially becoming the team’s worst campaign since 2020, when they finished 4-12.
It was after that season the Falcons began their last rebuild, hiring Arthur Smith away from the Tennessee Titans, where he served as offensive coordinator. But Smith delivered three straight 7-10 seasons, keeping Atlanta stuck in irrelevance.
Now the Falcons risk slipping past irrelevance and straight into embarrassment if the losses continue — and to make matters worse, they won’t even reap the rewards of a high draft pick. Atlanta traded its 2026 first-round selection to the Los Angeles Rams in the 2024 NFL Draft to select James Pearce Jr. with its second first-round pick.
