FC Twente manager Joseph Oosting acknowledges his side will be up against it when they face Manchester United on Wednesday night, but says they will create chances and can hurt their opponents.

The Dutch side travel to Old Trafford in the Europa League and are looking to spring a huge surprise against the team managed by one of their former players.

Erik ten Hag spent three spells with Twente over his career and began his time as a coach with the club.

The Red Devils manager admits he still has a lot of love for the Dutch club, but there will be no room for sentiment as both sides fight for a result on Wednesday night.

Oosting is not hiding the fact that Twente are underdogs, but believes in his team’s ability to pose a threat to the Premier League giants.

‘I always believe in opportunities. If we dare to play, we can also create opportunities. Especially in the transition, we can hurt Manchester,’ said Oosting.

‘That is easier said than done but the will is definitely there.

‘We played games against Red Bull [Salzburg] that you learn from. Everything goes at the highest tempo, whether it is on the ball or in defence.

‘You have to be top in everything and we need everyone to be there. I think we have also made progress in that.

‘We have respect for Manchester United, but we also have the full conviction and the will to get the most out of the game.’

Twente are coming off a 5-0 rout of Almere City in the Eredivisie on Sunday and Oosting hopes his side can concentrate on their strengths in Manchester.

‘Participating in this Europa League tournament is the crowning achievement of last season when we finished third. Now we can show it,’ he said. ‘We will play in a great stadium tomorrow, but one in which we will go for our own chances.

‘When the match starts tomorrow, it will remain a pitch with four lines between which we will play and if you want to get the most out of the match, we will do everything we can. We have to focus on the things we are good at.’
