Dundee footballer Mohamed Sylla was taken to hospital after collapsing in front of his distressed team-mates in the dressing room at half-time.

The French midfielder played the opening 45 minutes of Saturday’s Scottish Premiership match against Aberdeen at Dens Park before falling ill.

His worried team-mates were taken to the tunnel while medics treated the player.

Sylla was then taken to Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital for further treatment. In his post-match interview, Dundee boss Tony Docherty said his player was ‘responsive’ in hospital.

‘Mo took a turn at half-time. For his team-mates it was difficult to watch, it was difficult to see that,’ Docherty said.

‘The medics were involved and we had to get the players out of there. He’s responsive. He’s in hospital right now. We’ll just need to assess that and see how he is.’

Sylla has made 37 appearances for Dundee since joining the club in the summer of 2023. He has previously played for Oldham, Aldershot and Hartlepool as well as clubs in France.

Before Dundee’s clash with Aberdeen, fans at Dens Park paid tribute to their former striker Fabian Caballero, who recently died at the age 46.

The Argentine spent the majority of his career at Dundee, making over 100 appearances for the club across five seasons in Scotland.

Manager Docherty said: ‘We’re really saddened. The Dundee family are mourning the loss of a brilliant servant to the football club.

‘Huge condolences and sympathy goes out to his family. He was here last year for Cammy Kerr’s testimonial and was a larger than life character.

‘You can see why he made his mark at Dundee and there is huge respect for him. As the Dundee FC family, we mourn his loss.’

Dundee fans applauded in the seventh minute of Saturday’s clash with Aberdeen in tribute to their former No. 7, who was the club’s player of the year in 2003-04.

Ex-Dundee striker Tam McManus added: ‘Stunned to hear of the passing of Fabian Caballero.

‘I played with Fab at Dundee and he was a wonderful footballer. Also spent a great night with him a few years ago at a tribute do for him in Dundee.

‘The Dundee fans absolutely adored him. RIP Fabian.’

Dundee are currently eighth in the Scottish Premiership with six points from six games. They face struggling Kilmarnock next weekend.
