Former Bills Linebacker Makes Free Agent Visit to AFC East Rival Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins hosted a veteran linebacker for a visit Friday, and it’s a familiar face.

Baylon Spector, who spent the last three seasons in the AFC East with the Buffalo Bills, worked out for the Dolphins, according to David Furones of the Sun Sentinel.

Spector, who turns 27 next month, was released by the Bills in August.

Spector Was Plagued by Calf Injury

Spector joined the Bills as a seventh-round pick (231st overall) in 2022 out of Clemson and appeared in 26 games over his first three seasons. He started four games in 2024 and notched 1.5 sacks, 40 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one fumble recovery.

Last season, Spector also spent time on injured reserve with a calf injury. He then re-injured his calf in a Week 16 win over the New England Patriots and landed back on IR, where he remained throughout the playoffs.

Spector reached an injury settlement with the Bills in August after he again had issues with his calf, making him a free agent. The 6-foot, 233-pound defender worked out with the Carolina Panthers last month but remains unsigned.

Pro Football Focus rated Spector as one of the NFL’s worst linebackers last season, ranking him 186th out of 189 eligible players with a grade of 29.7.

Spector Contributed on Bills’ Special Teams

As of Saturday morning, the Dolphins haven’t announced any signings. So, it’s possible they were just doing their due diligence on Spector or didn’t come away impressed.

While Spector played poorly at linebacker, he did offer versatility on special teams. Spector played on both kickoff and punt coverage units for the Bills, and he also contributed on the field-blocking unit.

That’s an area where Spector could potentially help the Dolphins as they look to avoid starting the season 0-4. Miami hosts the New York Jets (0-3) on Monday night (7:15 p.m. ET).

Bills Getting Heathier for Week 4

The Bills will again be without defensive tackle Ed Oliver (ankle) and linebacker Matt Milano (pectoral), both of whom have already been ruled out for Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints.

However, on a more positive note, offensive tackle Spencer Brown (calf) returned to practice Friday as a limited participant. He and defensive end A.J. Epenesa, who was also listed as limited, are considered questionable to play Sunday (1 p.m. ET).

The Bills are seeking to start 4-0 for the 10th time in franchise history. The last instance was 2020, when they went on to go 13-3 and reach the AFC Championship game.
