It was not long ago that Ben DiNucci was a long-shot contender for the Denver Broncos’ starting quarterback job.
That was in 2023.
Fast forward two years, and DiNucci is joining his third organization in that span. A seventh-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2020, DiNucci signed with the Buffalo Bills and then the New Orleans Saints after leaving the Broncos.
“Football news,” DiNucci announced in a post on X on August 18. “I signed with the Falcons this morning.
“Source – myself (credible).”
DiNucci joins a Falcons team with 2024 first-round pick Michael Penix and four-time Pro Bowler Kirk Cousins on the roster. Atlanta has veteran Easton Stick and youngster Emory Jones, too.
Jones suffered an injury against the Tennessee Titans in preseason Week 2 and was waived.
DiNucci, who turns 29 in November, has thrown for 219 yards with 0 touchdowns or interceptions on 53.5% completion in his career. He is 0-1 as a starter, logging his lone first-string appearance with the Cowboys as a rookie injury replacement for Andy Dalton.
DiNucci initially signed with the Broncos in May 2023. After bouncing between the active roster and the Broncos’ practice squad, Denver cut DiNucci roughly one year later.
Ex-Broncos QB Ben DiNucci Takes Control

DiNucci’s announcement is in character, with the veteran previously breaking the news that his time with the Broncos had ended. At the time, the Broncos had just drafted Bo Nix and acquired Zach Wilson in a trade with the New York Jets. They also still had Jarrett Stidham.
“I have been released by the Broncos,” DiNucci posted on X in May 2024. “All part of the journey !!
“Excited for what’s to come.”
The Broncos also chose former Colorado School of Mines QB John Matocha over DiNucci, only to release him before the regular season, too. DiNucci’s agent kept fans updated about his next stop while in free agency.
“Congratulations to client @B_DiNucci6 signing with the @BuffaloBills #GoBills,” JL Sports posted on X in August 2024.
That came after a tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers following DiNucci’s Broncos exit.
Broncos QB Room in Good Shape

The Broncos have changed up their quarterback room even further since cutting DiNucci, who played for the Seattle Sea Dragons in the XFL in 2024. Nix had a record-setting rookie season for the Broncos, and Stidham returns for a third season as the team’s QB2.
However, instead of Wilson, who signed with the Miami Dolphins, the Broncos brought in former Indianapolis Colts sixth-rounder Sam Ehlinger.
The Broncos boasted a strong dynamic.
Nix, Stidham, and Wilson were all close and spent time together with their families off the field, and that has continued with Ehlinger. He and Nix spent time with their wives together in Beaver Creek in June.
If all goes well for the Broncos, the most work Stidham will have to do is mop-up duty.
Moreover, Ehlinger would occupy the emergency third quarterback job that Wilson held last season.
Unfortunately for DiNucci, he will not have a chance to face the Broncos even if he makes the Falcons’ roster. The Broncos and Falcons will not meet in the regular season and would have to square off in the Super Bowl for that to happen.
