Former Clippers Guard Pushes Back After Felony Charge

Former Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley, one of the most recognizable defensive leaders from the Lob City-to-Kawhi/PG transition era, publicly addressed his arrest in Texas for the first time after posting bail on a third-degree felony assault charge.

Shortly after securing a $40,000 bond, Beverley posted a message on X (formerly Twitter), signaling that early online reports were misleading.

“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv❤️🙏🏾,” Beverley wrote, in what was his first public comment on the case.

TMZ Sports reported that Beverley was accused of assaulting a family or household member, with allegations involving impeding breath or circulation, a serious offense under Texas law.

Beverley’s Camp Claims He Acted to Protect His Minor Sister

In a subsequent X post, Beverley released a detailed statement defending himself and disputing the early characterization of the incident.

“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor,” the statement read.

According to the statement, Beverley allegedly came home to find his underage sister alone with an 18-year-old man late at night.

“He was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister,” the attorney continued.

“However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.”

The defense suggests a different version of events will emerge once the case proceeds.

Clippers Fans Remember Beverley for Grit, Identity-Setting Defense

Beverley spent four seasons (2017–2021) with the Clippers, where he became a cornerstone of the franchise’s culture shift under head coach Doc Rivers and later Tyronn Lue.

He was a key figure in the era that featured Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell, and Patrick Patterson, earning a reputation for defensive toughness, leadership, and emotional intensity.

With the Clippers, he averaged 8.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and provided elite perimeter pressure. He also helped lead the Clippers to multiple playoff runs, including the franchise’s first-ever trip to the Western Conference Finals (2021).

His battles with Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, and Damian Lillard during his Clippers tenure made him a fan favorite among LA’s blue-and-red faithful.

Arrest Adds to String of Recent Controversies

Beverley has had a turbulent stretch since leaving Los Angeles.

He still has an unserved four-game suspension from a heated altercation with Indiana Pacers fans last season. The fans involved in that incident later filed a lawsuit against him.

His overseas stint with Hapoel Tel Aviv ended in suspension earlier this year. The latest arrest adds another layer of uncertainty to Beverley’s NBA future.

What’s Next for the Former Clippers Guard?

A court date has not yet been announced, and Beverley insists early reports mischaracterized what happened.

The development comes at a time when the Clippers organization — and franchise star Leonard — are navigating renewed scrutiny amid the team’s recent controversies and questions surrounding salary cap circumvention.
