The drama for the Philadelphia Eagles surrounding star WR A.J. Brown continues. The former Titan has made his frustrations with the organization and the offense known, and the story of the season so far for the Eagles has been how, despite their record, their offense has struggled. Brown’s lack of involvement is at the center of these discussions.
Brown is on pace for the fewest receiving yards of his seven-year career, as well as the second-fewest receptions and touchdowns of his career, just ahead of the 2021 season in which he only played 13 games. Through eight games in 2025, he has 31 catches for 408 yards and three touchdowns. This includes the lowest yards per reception of his career, as well.
It’s not just his individual stats that are suffering, either. Entering Sunday’s action, the Eagles 7-2 and tied for the best record in the NFC, and yet Philly ranks 23rd in total offense and just 25th in passing offense. That’s not what we’re used to seeing from this prolific Eagles attack.
NFL Legend and Former Philadelphia Eagles WR Terrell Owens Weighs In

On an appearance on Good Day Philadelphia, NFL Hall of Fame WR Terrell Owens gave his own thoughts on the controversy currently surrounding Brown. Owens played two seasons in Philadelphia in 2004 and 2005, and is of course one of the greatest receivers in league history.
“If you’re in an offense, especially with [Brown] being WR1, you want to be involved in the offense,” Owens said. “I don’t blame him, that’s an offensive coordinator thing. [Eagles QB Jalen Hurts] has to shoulder some of that responsibility too, because he’s the quarterback, he’s an extension of the head coach and the offensive coordinator.”
Owens had his own clashes with fans in Philadelphia during his brief time in that city, with his brazen outspokenness surrounding his contract negotiations drawing frustrations from fans who just wanted to see him play. Player empowerment has always been important to Owens, so it’s no surprise that he’s taking Brown’s side in this debate — especially as a former NFL wide receiver himself.
“I truly understand where he’s coming from, you have to utilize the guy based on his skillet,” Owens added. “Eagles fans out there, lay off A.J.…get the guy the ball.”
Huge NFC Showdown Looms for the Philadelphia Eagles
The battle for the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs is an absolute gauntlet halfway through the season. The Eagles are tied with the Rams and Seahawks atop the NFC at 7-2 entering Sunday’s action, but the overall picture is a lot messier than that. Four other teams — the Buccaneers, Lions, Bears, and Packers — are within a game and a half of the conference’s top seed.
There’s a lot left to play out with eight weeks to go in the season, but the Eagles can’t afford to fall behind if they want to earn the playoff bye come January. That starts on Sunday night against the Lions, a game that will not only matter for each team’s record, but will also award a crucial head-to-head tiebreaker that could play a major role when it’s all said and done.
