The New York Giants are set to welcome Jaxson Dart back to the field in Week 13 after he cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol, but at this point in the season, the team is simply looking to get to the finish line without suffering any more injuries. For one of their former head coaches, though, things may be getting interesting for him in the world of college football.
That former head coach would be Joe Judge, who spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons with the Giants. After returning to the New England Patriots for two seasons, Judge transitioned to the college ranks, where he’s worked as a member of Lane Kiffin‘s staff with the Ole Miss Rebels. And as questions swirl around Kiffin’s future with the team, they could have a big impact on Judge’s future.
Joe Judge Set to Become Ole Miss’ Interim Head Coach if Lane Kiffin Leaves
New York’s disaster of a 2025 campaign has already seen head coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Shane Bowen get fired, which just adds to the long list of coaches who haven’t been able to get the team back on track in recent years. Judge is a part of that group, as he didn’t even make it two years with the Giants before he got himself run out of town.
Judge initially made a name for himself with the Patriots, which is where he worked from 2012 to 2019. In 2015, Judge became the team’s special teams coordinator, and over time, he gradually turned himself into a top head coach candidate. Things didn’t pan out for Judge with New York, but he has reinvented himself with Ole Miss, working as their quarterbacks coach this year.
Kiffin’s future with the Rebels is up in the air, thanks in large part to the LSU Tigers‘ desire to hire him as their new head coach. With a decision reportedly set to come on Saturday, Ole Miss could quickly find itself without a head coach. And should Kiffin decide to bolt for LSU, reports indicate that Judge will be tabbed as the team’s interim head coach.
“If Kiffin decides to leave for LSU, former New York Giants coach Joe Judge would likely serve as the Rebels’ interim coach in the CFP, sources told ESPN,” Mark Schlabach reported.

Considering how poorly things went for Judge with the Giants, it was clear that it was going to take some time for him to reemerge as a reliable coach. That has happened in surprisingly quick fashion with Ole Miss, though, as Judge’s work with Trinidad Chambliss has played a big role in the team’s success this season.
While it may not be a long-term gig, getting a shot at redemption when it comes to working as a head coach is clearly something Judge is angling for. And even if Kiffin stays put, the fact that the Rebels are even willing to turn to him as their interim head coach is a good sign for his future prospects. With a decision coming Saturday, it will be worth keeping tabs on Judge to see what the future holds for him.
