The New York Jets dropped to 2-8 on Thursday night, following a 27-14 loss at the hands of the division rival New England Patriots.
New York walked into Foxborough a heavy underdog and was unable to keep pace with the red-hot Patriots.
New England won their eighth game in a row, and for at least a few days, holds the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a 9-2 record.
The Jets were outmatched in several areas, but none were more obvious than the quarterback position.
Second-year quarterback Drake Maye lit up the Jets’ thin secondary to the tune of 281 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.
New York’s signal caller, Justin Fields, struggled to say the least.
The five-year veteran completed 15 of 26 passes for 115 yards, passing for one touchdown and losing a costly fumble in the fourth quarter.
The Fields era in New York may have come to a close on Thursday night, and fans and analysts alike are unloading on the former Ohio State star for another lousy outing.
Willie Colon Eviscerates Justin Fields on SNY Postgame
Former New York Jets offensive lineman Willie Colon knows a thing or two about quarterbacks, having played with a future Hall of Famer in Ben Roethlisberger from 2006 to 2013.
Colon had sharp words for Fields following the loss on SNY’s Jets Post Game Live, questioning how head coach Aaron Glenn could continue to play the quarterback after an atrocious first half.
“Yeah, I mean it’s tough man, because Aaron Glenn is going to sit up here and talk about how he needs to watch the tape, you don’t need to watch the tape…you don’t need to watch anything, Justin Fields is not an NFL quarterback,” Colon said.
“He shouldn’t have played in the second half. Right? Especially when you have a defense, without Quinnen Williams, without Sauce Gardner, and who played, all in all, scrappy.”
After leading a promising touchdown drive on the Jets’ first possession, Fields finished the first half with 23 total passing yards.
His inability to get the ball out promptly was on full display, and despite some great plays made with his legs, it was obvious the quarterback standing on the opposing sideline was in a different stratosphere.
Fields’ performance was just another dud in a long list of poor starts in the 2025 season.
Aaron Glenn Catches Heat From Willie Colon
Fields wasn’t the only member of the New York Jets who caught flak from Colon.
The former Jet ripped into the head coach as well, questioning how Glenn could subject his team to the obvious hindrance of Fields’ play.
“From a ball player’s standpoint, if I’m sitting in that locker room and he’s talking to us, and he’s [Glenn] talking about what we should do, I’m like, no, what should you have done.”
“The tape don’t lie. I’m on the field. We watched missed throws, bad mechanics, he doesn’t trust his feet…It’s redundant, it’s tired and I feel bad for those guys because you can tell they’re still playing with pride.”
It’s safe to say there will be quarterback questions this week in New York, and it may be Tyrod Taylor under center when the Jets take on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12.
