Former Jets Wide Receiver Signs With Broncos After Wanting ‘More’ Reps

Former New York Jets second-round pick Elijah Moore is signing with the Denver Broncos, according to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.

Moore will sign with the Broncos’ practice squad after visiting with the team on Monday.

Denver will be Moore’s fourth team in five years, and the former Ole Miss product will look to carve out a role for himself within the Broncos’ offense.

Considering their needs at wide receiver, it was a no-brainer move for Sean Payton and company.

Moore has shown spurts of explosiveness throughout his NFL career, but has never been able to achieve sustained success as a featured weapon.

Falling Out With the Jets

Moore was selected 34th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, in the same class as second overall pick Zach Wilson.

The tandem would not develop into the dynamic duo Jets fans had hoped for on draft night.

Moore’s rookie season would be his best as a Jet, hauling in 43 receptions for 538 yards and five touchdowns.

He also had five rushing attempts for 54 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Problems began in 2022, when, amid a 4-2 start, Moore began publicly complaining about his usage and lack of targets.

He requested a trade and was not granted one.

The outburst led to an even further reduced role in New York’s offense, and in the 2023 offseason, the Jets traded Moore and a third-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a second-round pick.

Cleveland was certainly a better situation for Moore; he had arguably two of the best years of his career there, totaling 120 receptions for 1,178 yards and three touchdowns.

But the Browns opted not to extend the former Ole Miss Rebel and allowed him to test free agency in 2025.

Moore Still Looking for a Place to Call Home

In May 2025, Moore signed a one-year $5 million contract with the Buffalo Bills, hoping that MVP quarterback Josh Allen could elevate his game.

He would only end up starting two games in Buffalo, appearing in nine, and catching nine balls for 112 yards and no touchdowns.

Moore would score a rushing touchdown in Week 2 against his former team, the New York Jets, in what would be his only highlight as a Bill.

After signing veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks in late November, Moore and the Bills mutually agreed to part ways, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“The #Bills and veteran WR Elijah Moore agreed over the past 24 hours on a mutual parting, source says, with Moore wanting more offensive reps. Brandin Cooks’ signing helped pave the way for Moore to be waived,” Rapoport wrote in a post on X.

The 25-year-old wideout was once again yearning for more opportunities in the passing game, and just wasn’t getting them in Buffalo.

Now with the Denver Broncos, Moore will hope to pick up the offense quickly, aiming to be elevated from the practice squad to the active roster in hopes of making his mark.

Outside of Courtland Sutton, the Broncos do not have much at wide receiver, and can certainly use the depth as they continue their push for the AFC’s No. 1 seed.
