Former Lakers Guard Patrick Beverley Breaks Silence After Felony Arrest

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Patrick Beverley addressed the public for the first time following his arrest in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge, telling fans not to jump to conclusions as details continue to unfold.

Shortly after posting a $40,000 bail, Beverley took to X (formerly Twitter) with a message clearly pushing back on early reports about the incident:

“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv❤️🙏🏾,” Beverley wrote.

The 37-year-old guard, who played for the Lakers during the 2022–23 NBA season, is accused of assaulting a family or household member and allegedly impeding breath or circulation, according to TMZ Sports. Beverley is expected to appear in court in the coming weeks.

Beverley Acted Out of Concern for His Minor Sister

In a subsequent X post, Beverley released a detailed statement defending himself and disputing the early characterization of the incident.

“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor,” the statement read. “Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister.”

The statement insisted the situation has been misrepresented:

“However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.”

The remarks suggest Beverley will fight the charges and frame his actions as protective rather than aggressive.

Beverley’s Lakers Tenure

Beverley spent the 2022–23 season with the Lakers, where he started 45 games alongside LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. Known for his high-intensity defense and outspoken personality, Beverley became a fan favorite for his competitiveness and ability to spark energy in the locker room.

Before his NBA hiatus, Beverley averaged 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 45 games with the Lakers, serving as a defensive specialist and veteran voice before being moved for Mo Bamba at the trade deadline.

Even after leaving, Beverley maintained close ties to the Lakers fanbase through social media, his podcast, and frequent commentary on the team’s stars.

Legal Case Adds to Tumultuous Stretch for Former Lakers Guard

Beverley’s arrest is the latest in a string of off-court incidents.

Beverley has not appeared in an NBA game since May 2, 2024, when the Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference playoffs. In the final minutes of that game, Beverley became involved in a high-profile altercation with Pacers fans.

Video showed Beverley hitting a woman in the head with a basketball, asking another fan for the ball, then throwing it back forcefully into the stands. The incident sparked national attention and resulted in a four-game NBA suspension, which Beverley has not yet served, as well as a lawsuit filed by the Pacers fans.

The lawsuit accuses Beverley of causing “physical pain,” emotional distress, humiliation, and financial damages, including medical expenses and lost wages.

What’s Next for Beverley?

Beverley’s next court date has not been made public, but his legal team appears ready to challenge the narrative as more details emerge.
