Former New England Patriots Star Rips Bill Belichick Over Jordon Hudson Relationship

When Bill Belichick was hired at North Carolina, it opened some eyes. One of the greatest NFL coaches making the jump to college football is not what a lot of people had on their bingo cards.

Making the jump with Belichick was his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson. During their time in Chapel Hill, it has become a national storyline. What do some of Belichick’s former players think of their former coach and his young girlfriend? One player was honest about it.

Former Patriots Defensive Back Asante Samuel Calls Out Bill Belichick

Samuel, a former standout in the New England Patriots secondary for Belichick, called his former coach a ‘hypocrite’ about his relationship with Hudson to TMZ.

“Ultimately, coach is being a hypocrite. He’s being a hypocrite, the way he’s carrying on. He told us to stay off the media and don’t have family distractions and things like that,” said Samuel. “Coach has all this stuff going on? Coach, where did this come from? Why wasn’t we able to enjoy ourselves like this now that you want to enjoy yourself, know what I’m saying.”

During his days as Patriots head coach, Belichick ran a tight ship and never would have let a player’s personal life be in the news so much. He would have called it a distraction. It seems that is the case for Belichick at North Carolina.

“Coach is setting the standards out here for us. He set the standard for us men. Everybody that looked up to coach Belichick and believed in the Belichick way, this is the Belichick way, man, he set the standard,” Samuel said. “Ultimately, I just believe be happy in life. End of the day you have to be happy and whatever that looks like, be happy, find happiness. If it’s going to be a little embarrassing and you don’t mind, other person doesn’t mind, ya’ll are happy together and it’s authentic, go with it, just be happy.”

UNC Looking to Become Bowl Eligible

One thing Belichick is learning, things are very different in college football than in the NFL. North Carolina is 4-5 and needs to win two out of their final three games to become bowl-eligible. The Tar Heels host Duke next weekend and then close out the season at North Carolina State Thanksgiving Weekend. Samuel thinks his former coach will eventually figure things out in the college game.

“He’s going to go through growing pains, and, man, he’s been in the NFL so long, adjusting to coaching kids and younger athletes with a new NIL era and things like that, it might take a little while for him to adjust to the system,” Samuel said. “Obviously, he has to grow out of his ways, the old ways that he used to do things, definitely is not going to work. The cat’s out of the bag; no one is going for that anymore, that has been exposed. I think with him trying to change a little bit, be more open, and things like that.”

No matter how this season ends up playing out, Belichick appears to be in it for the long haul in Chapel Hill, as he released a statement on Friday night about his name being linked to the New York Giants‘ recent opening. There was even talk in October about things coming to an end in the middle of the season at UNC. They haven’t, and he’s slowly turning things around. That still doesn’t mean he’ll leave for an NFL job, but right now, he’s committed to North Carolina, with Jordon.
