Georgia Bulldogs Provide Key Injury Updates Ahead of Matchup Vs. Texas Longhorns

The Georgia Bulldogs avoided the ever-dangerous “trap” game against Mississippi State with a 41-21 victory, instead using the opportunity against an inferior team to flex their offensive muscles ahead of a huge matchup against the Texas Longhorns this Saturday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. EST. Flashback to the 2024 season, where the Bulldogs defeated the Longhorns twice, and the SEC Championship game was the first game action Georgia fans saw of Gunner Stockton.

The Bulldogs must be fully healthy in this top-10 matchup between SEC heavyweights. In that victory over Mississippi State, tight end Lawson Luckie took a scary hit to the head area late in the game, which saw him on the ground for several minutes needing medical attention. Center Drew Bobo was also removed from the game with a finger injury.

Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart Provides Updates to Lawson Luckie and Drew Bobo

On Monday, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart met with the media to provide injury updates on both Drew Bobo and Lawson Luckie.

Starting with Bobo, it doesn’t appear to be a big issue, and Kirby Smart indicated his finger just needed to get bandaged up, and Bobo is practicing this week.

As for Luckie, here is what Smart said about the injury recovery:

“He obviously got a shot to the head, and he’s fine,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “He’s moving. He wanted to go back in the game. The decision makers held him (out).”

It is great news to hear that both Bobo and Luckie are doing well. The hit to Luckie was especially scary, as his head appeared to hit the turf very hard. The Bulldogs’ tight ends stepped up in Luckie’s absence, as Oscar Delp found the endzone in the second quarter and Elyiss Williams had an impressive 24-yard reception to set Georgia up for another touchdown.

Georgia Looking to End Longhorns Playoff Chances

Considering Texas has two losses on the season, it’s fair to assume they can not afford any more losses if they want to make the College Football Playoff.

Texas is coming off the benefit of a bye week, but Georgia looks to be rounding into form, and many of the Bulldogs’ key players were able to get off their feet in the win over Mississippi State. The Longhorns defeated Vanderbilt in their last matchup.

Georgia continues to get a high level of play out of Gunner Stockton, while Arch Manning is still finding his footing at the college level.

The Bulldogs are 8-1 in the SEC, and currently sit in third place. If the Bulldogs are going to make the SEC title game, they would have to beat Texas and then get help from the teams playing either Alabama (Oklahoma, Auburn) or Texas A&M (South Carolina, Texas)
