Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Teammates React After Bucks Star Makes History

Just two games into the 2025–26 NBA season, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is already making history.

The nine-time All-NBA selection and two-time MVP became the first player in league history to record a combined 60 points, 30 rebounds, and 10 assists through his first two games of a season, Sports Illustrated reports. His latest performance of 31 points, 20 rebounds, and seven assists left his teammates stunned and the Toronto Raptors searching for answers, per The Athletic.

Bucks Star Powers Past Raptors Defense

The Raptors tried everything to slow down Antetokounmpo. They pressured him full court, sent double teams in the post, and rotated every long defender they had to tire him out. None of it worked.

Antetokounmpo attacked in transition, crashed the glass, and found open teammates as the Bucks secured a 122–116 win at Fiserv Forum on Friday night.

“I mean, like, he’s the best player in the world in my opinion,” Bucks guard Cole Anthony said after the game. “He’s a beast. And he’s out there and he just affects the game in so many different ways. Maybe it’s why you’re not checking like, ‘Oh, he’s got 20 rebounds, too.’ You’re looking at the points, the assists, him holding down the paint and locking stuff down. He’s a heck of a player, man. It’s really different getting to see him every day in practice and in games than seeing him a couple times a year. I’m like, ‘Yo, this dude’s a beast.’”

According to Jim Owczarski of The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Friday marked Antetokounmpo’s third career game with at least 30 points, 20 rebounds, and seven assists. Only eight players in NBA history have reached those numbers three or more times, and among active players, only Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has matched him.

Historic Start Has Bucks in Early Rhythm

At 30 years old, Antetokounmpo is dominating on both ends of the floor. Through two games, he is averaging 30 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists, leading the Bucks to a 2–0 start under head coach Doc Rivers.

Friday’s outing was also the seventh time in his career that he recorded at least 30 points, 20 rebounds, and five assists, tying Jokic for the most among active players.

“Giannis had a terrific performance tonight, 30 and 20, a monster,” Bucks guard Gary Trent said after the win. “It was much needed. We needed all of it.”

Antetokounmpo’s impact goes far beyond the stat sheet. His relentless energy, improved playmaking, and focus on both ends have fueled Milwaukee’s strong start. The Bucks now travel to Cleveland to face the Cavaliers as they look to stay unbeaten.

The season is obviously still young, but Giannis looks like a strong MVP candidate. Throw SGA in there too as far as early picks go. We’ll see how the rest of the season unfolds for the Bucks big.

Opponents may have expected Giannis Antetokounmpo to ease into the new season, but his numbers suggest otherwise. Two games in, the Bucks star is already rewriting the record books and reminding everyone why he remains one of the most dominant forces in basketball.
