Giants Announce WR Reunion, Sign Ex-Broncos 12-Game Starter

The New York Giants revealed a couple of roster moves on the evening of October 13, kicking off the Week 7 news for Big Blue.

“The Giants signed LB Jonas Griffith and WR Juice Wells Jr. to the practice squad,” NYG team reporter Dan Salomone announced on Monday.

Wells was obviously with the organization this spring and summer. He is also a former teammate of Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart at Ole Miss, so his return makes sense with Dart taking over the starting job.

Wells is a 6-foot-0 slot receiver who caught 28 passes for 553 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns with Dart in 2024. He also put together a 1,250-yard campaign with James Madison in 2021.

During the 2025 preseason period, Wells caught 4 of 8 targets for 24 receiving yards and 2 first downs. He’ll serve as necessary positional depth after the injuries to Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton.

Giants Continue to Add Linebackers to Practice Squad With Ex-Broncos’ Jonas Griffith in Week 7

GettyThe New York Giants signed former Denver Broncos linebacker Jonas Griffith.

The Giants have had their injuries at wide receiver, but no position has been hit harder than interior linebacker in 2025. That’s created a revolving door on the practice squad, with several different linebackers rotating through it.

The latest is former Denver Broncos contributor and part-time starter Jonas Griffith.

Griffith is a 28-year-old linebacker who stands at 6-foot-4. He earned his first NFL opportunity as an undrafted free agent in 2021 and eventually found a home in Denver.

Despite not being drafted, Griffith has plenty of NFL experience. With the Broncos, he started 12 games from 2021 through 2022, appearing in 22 total.

Griffith is sort of your typical hard-hitting LB, with 92 total tackles (4 for a loss) and 5 QB hits. He hasn’t had too much of a defensive impact outside of that, with just 1 interception, 1 pass breakup, and 1 fumble recovery.

Like most linebackers, Griffith also has special teams experience with nearly 290 snaps in that department.

Griffith spent the 2023 season on the injured reserve. The Broncos then released him in August of 2024.

Giants Fans Want to See Juice Wells Jr. Get an Opportunity With Jaxson Dart at the NFL Level

Fans are already calling for the Giants to elevate Wells off the practice squad for Week 7, as the team is dealing with wide receiver issues.

With Slayton banged up and Nabers done for the season, the Giants turned to veteran Lil’Jordan Humphrey in Week 6 — but the results were not much better than Beaux Collins and Jalin Hyatt the game before.

Humphrey did finish with 4 catches for 55 yards, but he failed to haul in a touchdown and was somewhat underwhelming at times.

Still, he was more useful than Hyatt — who has just 3 receptions for 17 yards since Nabers’ injury — but that’s become a very low bar to clear.

Collins was more or less benched in Week 6 (4 offensive snaps) after his route-running mistake against the New Orleans Saints led to a Dart interception. Collins had played 21 snaps and 28 snaps in the two games prior.

Needless to say, there is definitely an open vacancy at wide receiver for someone like Wells. His main issue might be that he’s too similar to starting slot receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, who has been the Giants‘ top pass-catcher since Nabers’ injury.

For now, Wells should work on proving himself in practice, both on offense and special teams.
