Giants Balked at High Price for Star Wide Receiver Before Trade Deadline: Insider

The NFL trade deadline came and went on Tuesday with the New York Giants deciding to stand pat, even though they had a few different areas that could’ve been addressed with some moves before the buzzer sounded.

There’s no question that the Giants might have a bright future ahead with promising young quarterback Jaxson Dart under center and other rising stars like Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo.

However, the team didn’t feel like the right opportunities presented themselves ahead of the trade deadline, with the wide receiver position being something many believed the team would try to upgrade with a trade.

Reason Giants Chose Not to Trade for Jaylen Waddle

One of the most intriguing options at the wide receiver position ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday was Miami Dolphins star Jaylen Waddle.

With the season more or less over for the Dolphins in terms of their hopes of competing for a spot in the NFL playoffs, it wouldn’t have been all that surprising to see the struggling franchise trade Waddle in hopes of bringing in draft picks. However, it appears the asking price for the veteran wideout was a little too high, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

With Nabers out for the season after suffering a torn ACL in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Giants could really use a boost downfield, especially with Dart now under center and showing a lot of promise to be the future face of the storied franchise.

Even though Waddle would be a clear upgrade at wide receiver, the Giants weren’t willing to give up a first-round pick that could be the top tier of the 2026 NFL Draft, which is probably the smart move considering the situation.

Giants Didn’t Make Moves Ahead of NFL Trade Deadline

With the Giants sitting at 2-7 coming into Week 10’s matchup against the Chicago Bears on the road at Soldier Field, New York making big swings to improve the roster for the 2025 campaign doesn’t make a lot of sense.

According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, it wasn’t surprising to see little activity from the Giants ahead of the NFL trade deadline, given the lack of interest in their draft picks that haven’t panned out and the high price of wide receivers rumored to be available.

As a result of the Giants standing pat on Tuesday, it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the 2025 campaign unfolds with Dart running the show and Skattebo and Nabers beginning their recovery process, with the hope of playing during the 2026 NFL season.

The team’s schedule is about to get quite challenging during the second half of the 2025 NFL season, as Dart and company will face NFC heavyweights, the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions, before taking on the upstart New England Patriots in consecutive weeks after facing Caleb Williams‘ Bears squad on Sunday in Chicago.
