Giants Decision Results in New York’s Next ‘Franchise Star’

The New York Giants have a lot to prove going into the 2025 season, and head coach Brian Daboll has a lot on the line if he wants to keep his head coaching gig. The Giants’ seasons have been dismal lately, and Daboll and the powers at be are doing everything they can to ensure a victorious season this time around. A lot of that has to do with their quarterback class.

Now, NFL draft analyst Rob Rang of Fox Sports is naming the top NFL rookies heading into the 2025 season, and one of them is one of the most exciting recruits for the Giants.

Top Rookies in the NFL, Including the Giants

In the piece, published Thursday, June 29, Rang talks about the dynamics of having a new player in the fold. “Over the past quarter-century of evaluating college prospects for the NFL, I have learned one fundamental truth: there is no such thing as a sure thing,” he says.

He adds, “Sometimes, players with all the preferred traits struggle. And sometimes, those lacking tools surprise and become very effective pros. No one really knows who is going to be the best player from a given class until they actually prove it during NFL games.”

So, he looked at all 32 teams in the NFL to determine the best rookie in each team’s class. For the Giants, he named quarterback Jaxson Dart as the rising star. That should make a lot of Giants fans happy.

“The plan in New York seems to be to let veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston duke it out for the starting role and allow Dart time to sharpen his skills,” he notes. “That approach paid off with Manning, who sat behind Kurt Warner before starting seven games (losing six of them) as a rookie.”

Of Dart’s abilities, Rang says that the young player “appears to have the mental toughness to handle the glare of the New York media, and he certainly possesses the physical traits as well.”

Another Great Rookie for the Giants

The New York Giants also picked linebacker Abdul Carter in the 2025 NFL Draft back in April, and he’s another rising star on the team. According to Giants insider Dan Duggan, the coaching staff had Carter take a lot of snaps at practice, which he was was “notable because they were very conservative with injuries” in the spring. That’s good news for the New York Giants, because it pretty much says that Carter should be good to go to start in Week 1 of the regular season.

“Random positive note as I review the spring: The Giants didn’t dial back Abdul Carter’s reps,” Duggan said in a post on X. “That’s notable because they were very conservative with injuries and Carter had the stress reaction discovered in his foot at the combine. Didn’t appear to limit him at all.”

The NFL season will officially kick off on September 4 with the Philadelphia Eagles taking on the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 4. So, the season is just a few months away.
