Giants Finally Get Good News for the Future of the Franchise

The New York Giants are gearing up for the beginning of the preseason, and then, their regular season will kick in, so it’s a nerve-wracking time. The start of the season is an exciting time, too, though. It would be pretty difficult for the Giants to do worse than their 3-14 record last season, so there’s reason to have hope that Brian Daboll and company can turn this franchise around.

The Giants have Russell Wilson heading up their signal-caller lineup this season, which is a first, and they also have a budding franchise quarterback in Jaxson Dart. One of the key pieces of any team is how many young players they have on the squad. The younger the team, the better that team is suited for the future. With that in mind, ESPN has a new tally out of the best NFL rosters under the age of 25.

Aaron Schatz of ESPN’s feature, published on July 29, names the best teams in the NFL with players under the age of 25. The Giants got some great news in this tally, and it should calm some of the fears of those who follow the team.

The New York Giants’ Age

In the piece, Schatz notes that “NFL teams don’t need young talent to be serious contenders, but having it helps indicate their potential for long-term success. Blue-chip players are cornerstone assets from whom teams will likely derive their biggest future value.”

So, who’s No. 1? It’s the Texans. “For the third straight year, the Houston Texans are No. 1 on this list of teams with the most under-25 talent, which is what happens when they trade up to get the top two picks in the draft and take two players who are very young,” he states.

Where do the Giants land? They’re No. 4. How amazing is that? Last year, they were No. 13, so they’ve gone up a bunch.

“The Giants’ young talent includes a strong core with the four players named above, as well as a long tail of underperformers who still have the potential to develop into key starters,” he notes.

Jaxson Dart is a Bright Spot

Of course, one of the brightest stars under the age of 25 for the New York Giants is Dart. “Dart, this year’s first-round pick, turned 22 in May,” Schatz says. “He’ll be throwing to Nabers, who ranked an incredible sixth in the ESPN receiver tracking metrics as a 21-year-old rookie! Wan’Dale Robinson is in the slot at age 24, while starting tight end Theo Johnson is also 24.”

He also gives a shout-out to some of the younger players who haven’t really broken out yet. “In terms of young players who could still blossom, the Giants will try 24-year-old former first-round pick Evan Neal at guard this season,” he says. “Deep threat Jalin Hyatt is still 23, while tight end Daniel Bellinger, who started eight games last season, is 24.”

He goes on to rave about the team’s two young edge rushers, noting that “Thibodeaux is in his fourth NFL season and still won’t turn 25 until Dec. 15. Carter, the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft, is 21.”

So, the future is looking good for the Giants. Rest easy that this team does have hope.
