The New York Giants had a solid and energetic duo of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart and fellow rookie running back Cameron Skattebo going on, but it call came crashing down on Sunday, October 26, when Skattebo was severely injured during the Giants’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles. It was really heartbreaking to see this injury go down, not only because it was a gruesome-looking injury but also because it dashed the hopes of Giants fans who could see the silver lining on the way for this team.
Skattebo is out, and Dart is going to have to forge ahead without him. Dart, of course, also doesn’t have the injured wide receiver Malik Nabers helping him. Now that Skattebo and Nabers are both finished for the season, things are looking more and more difficult for Dart.
Now, the New York Giants have released their latest injury report, and it doesn’t do any favors for Dart. The situation begs the question of what general manager Joe Schoen will do to give the 22-year-old rising star some support on the field.
Another Surprise on the New York Giants’ Injury Report
On Friday, October 31, another New York Giants player showed up on the injury report, and it was unexpected. That player is offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor. Matt Citak of the team’s official website shared the news on X.
“Surprised by the doubtful listing for Eluemunor,” Dan Duggan of The Athletic stated in a post on X. “He was very confident he’d play earlier in the week. Everyone always overrates rookies; would be a downgrade to have Marcus Mbow at RT.”
Commenters were quicky to react to the news. “Not good injury news for our weak secondary,” one said. “Oh man that secondary… Dart needs five touchdowns,” another commented.
The injury tally also included cornerbacks Paulson Adebo, Art Green and Cor’Dale Flott; and defensive lineman Chauncey Golston listed as out. Daniel Bellinger and Eluemunor are both doubtful. Jevón Holland and Rico Payton are questionable.
So, on top of the obvious Skattebo injury, Dart will be dealing with a weak secondary, all around.
Jaxson Dart and Brian Daboll Talk Cam Skattebo
Following the Eagles game, both Dart and Giants head coach Brian Daboll talked about the Skattebo injury. “Yeah, feel absolutely terrible for the young man,” Daboll said. “Obviously, saw it looked bad. I know you feel for anybody on your team that goes down and has a really bad injury and I feel … I know the players feel the same way about (Skattebo).”
Dart added that he’s “devastated” about it. “It’s my boy, man,” he said, according to the Giants’ official website. “So, seeing him going down and reacting to what happened, that just sucks. It’s the worst part of this game.”
When asked if Dart said anything to his injured friend on the field, he said that he did, but that he’s “going to keep that between us.”
The New York Giants have a huge contest against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, November 2. Their NFL bye week isn’t until Week 14.
