Giants’ Head-Coach Search Suddenly Includes a Key Seahawks Coach

A Seattle Seahawks coach is already getting head-coach buzz — and the New York Giants are the latest team tied to him. NFL insider Dianna Russini reported Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is among the names on the Giants’ candidate list for their head-coaching vacancy.

According to the report, Kubiak is listed among Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman.

Dianna Russini Lists Klint Kubiak Among Giants’ Early Candidates

Russini’s report frames Kubiak as part of a wide-ranging early pool that mixes offense, defense and even the college ranks.

For Seattle, the mention is another sign that Kubiak’s name is moving quickly on the coaching carousel after just one season running Mike Macdonald’s offense.

The Seahawks hired Kubiak as their offensive coordinator on January 26, 2025, bringing him in after he previously held the same title with the New Orleans Saints.

Kubiak, 38, has also worked in a variety of offensive roles around the NFL, including time with the Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers, building a resume that teams often look for when compiling coordinator-to-head-coach lists.

What It Could Mean for the Seahawks and Giants

Nothing in Russini’s report indicates the Giants have requested an interview yet — but getting on a team’s “candidate list” is usually the first public breadcrumb that interview requests could follow once timelines open up.

For the Giants, the bigger picture is straightforward: they’re collecting names as they search for stability after moving on from head coach Brian Daboll earlier this season.

For Seattle, this is the part of the cycle teams plan for but still dread: continuity can get tested fast when a coordinator’s stock rises. If Kubiak keeps drawing interest, the Seahawks could eventually have to balance playoff preparation with the reality that their offensive play-caller is getting attention elsewhere.

It also underscores how the Giants appear to be casting a wide net — pairing defensive-minded options like Hafley and Anarumo with offensive names like Kingsbury and Kubiak, plus Freeman from the college game.

Kubiak also has one of those NFL last names that instantly gets owners’ attention. He’s the son of longtime coach Gary Kubiak and has been around the league’s modern “wide-zone/play-action” ecosystem for years, with stops that helped him build a resume beyond just one coordinator season. That matters in a cycle where teams are hunting for two things at once: a head coach who can build a program and an offense that can stabilize a quarterback. For Giants fans, that’s the hook — New York’s next hire is likely to be judged first on what it means for the QB room and the weekly identity on offense.

Coaching Search Context Around New York

New York’s opening has been widely discussed as one of the key jobs to watch in this cycle, with coverage noting ownership pressure and the desire to “get it right” after years of instability.

Meanwhile, the Giants have struggled on the field this season, adding even more urgency — and attention — to any report that ties specific names to the search.
