Giants Playmaker Called ‘Long Shot’ to Play in Week 7

The Giants will likely remain without one of the top playmakers when they visit the Broncos on Sunday. Wide receiver Darius Slayton, who ranks third on the Giants with 166 yards on 12 catches, is a longshot to play, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.

Slayton, 28, has not practiced all week and faces the possibility of missing his second straight game since injuring his hamstring in a Week 5 loss to the Saints.

Slayton Running Out of Time to Play

Slayton did not play in the Giants’ Week 6 win over the Eagles. Veteran receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey stepped up in his absence after being elevated from the practice squad for the first time this season, hauling in four passes for 55 yards. The Giants also relied heavily on Wan’Dale Robinson, who added six catches for 84 yards and a touchdown.

Slayton was seen doing some side work during Thursday’s practice, but he’ll need to make it back onto the field before the week is over to have any shot of returning Sunday. The Giants (2-4) are seeking consecutive wins for the first time since Weeks 11-14 of the 2023 season.

Slayton had three catches for 31 yards in the 26-14 loss to the Saints, but he also had a costly drop and lost a fumble before exiting in the second half with a hamstring injury. With Pro Bowler Malik Nabers already out, the Giants finished the game with seldom-used Jalin Hyatt and Beaux Collins at receiver.

Nabers to Undergo Surgery Soon on Knee

Nabers may be out for the year with an ACL injury, but he remains a constant presence around team facilities. Head coach Brian Daboll said Thursday that Nabers is “doing good” and should undergo surgery soon on his injured knee.

Given how early it is in the season, Nabers should be ready to go by the start of 2026, barring any setbacks. But that hasn’t stopped the Giants from seeking upgrades to help further rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart’s development.

According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, the Giants are going “big-game hunting” for a receiver ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline, with Chris Olave, Jaylen Waddle and Jakobi Meyers among the potential targets.
