Giants Pushed to Make Drastic Quarterback Move

The New York Giants have a full house when it comes to solid quarterbacks on their roster, and it’s going to make for an exciting season to see just how it all pans out. Russell Wilson, of course, is quarterback No. 1 right now, and he brings a multitude of experience to the team.

Alongside Wilson, the Giants have rookie Jaxson Dart, veteran Jameis Winston and hometown guy Tommy DeVito. So, there’s a good mix of younger players and veterans to really give Brian Daboll and the team some choices on the field.

Daboll has already stated that Wilson is definitively their Q1, which makes sense, because he bring the most experience to the team. Wilson has appeared in two Super Bowls during his career, while most quarterbacks don’t even get that chance once. He played in Super Bowl XLVIII and Super Bowl XLIX and won with the Seattle Seahawks at Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014. But, the Giants are being urged to take a different move with their quarterback room earlier in the season than expected.

Don’t Wait on Jaxson Dart of the New York Giants

While Wilson is expected to start for the Giants, nobody thinks that he’ll be the quarterback to lead this team for 10 more years. Sure, Wilson, 36, brings strong leadership qualities to the team, but even he knows that he’ll want to retire from the NFL sometime in the near future.

When talking about starter for the Giants in the quarterback position this season, Yahoo Sports’ Jason Fitz and Frank Schwab stated that they believe it would be beneficial to make the rookie start earlier in the season, since he’s the future in that position for the franchise and Wilson and Winston are already proven players.

“Would it be better or worse for Jaxson Dart’s future if he starts Week 1?” they ask.

To agree with that, it’s important to look at this being a long-term decision. To win in the short-term, Wilson is likely the right guy, but to train someone for the long-term, that would be Dart.

Why the Giants Starting Jaxson Dart in Week 1 Doesn’t Make Sense

Frankly, a team doesn’t sign a guy like Wilson to bench him for the entire season. It’s hyperbole to think that if the New York Giants don’t start Dart in Week 1, they’re somehow making this massive mistake that will cost both them and Dart in the long run.

So, Fitz and Schwab are among the many who are talking about the possibility of starting Dart early, and while it makes sense to give Dart some real-life experience on the field this season, this franchise has suffered for too long to not take advantage of having a Super Bowl-winning veteran in Wilson on their roster.

While the Giants probably won’t go all the way this season, it would mean a lot to the fanbase to have an honorable season, and if Wilson is the guy to do that, while helping to train Dart on the side, that seems to be a much better option.
