Giants QB Jaxson Dart, Several Starters Headline Initial Week 6 Injury Report

The New York Giants must move on from their Week 5 loss to the New Orleans Saints quickly as they prepare for a Thursday Night Football matchup against the division rival Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6, and the initial injury news is in.

According to Giants team reporter Dan Salomone and the official October 6 NYG injury report, four players would not have practiced on Monday if the team had held a session (which they did not).

Those players were right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (back), wide receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring), and linebackers Swayze Bozeman (ankle) and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring). Flannigan-Fowles missed Week 5 with the same injury, while the others all suited up for the Saints clash.

Along with those four “DNPs,” quarterback Jaxson Dart (hamstring), safeties Jevon Holland (calf), Tyler Nubin (groin) and Dane Belton (shoulder), nickelback Dru Phillips (hip), and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. (shoulder) were all listed as “limited.”

Dart popped up on the injury list ahead of Week 5, too, but he ended up playing the entire game. That should be the case again versus the Eagles, as there has been no reason from the Giants or the rookie QB to expect otherwise.

It’s a short week, so every bit of injury news is notable, but of the 10 Giants on this report, the status of starters Eluemunor, Slayton, Holland and Nubin will be most important.

As for Tracy, the running back returned to practice on Friday to give his shoulder a go, in preparation for Week 6. The Giants did not say how Tracy’s initial practice back from injury went.

Ex-Giants Superstar RB Saquon Barkley Featured in Eagles’ Week 6 Injury News

On the opposite side of things, the Eagles released their estimated Monday injury report, and former Giants superstar running back Saquon Barkley was a surprise addition.

Barkley was labeled as a “did not participate” with a knee injury. Although, like the Giants, the Eagles did not officially practice on October 6, so this is all somewhat speculative.

Starting offensive guard Landon Dickerson (ankle) and tight end Grant Calcaterra (oblique) joined Barkley in the “DNP” category, while rookie linebacker Jihaad Campbell (biceps) and defensive tackle Byron Young (triceps) were labeled as “limited.”

Linebacker Nakobe Dean, who is working his way back from a long-term knee injury and surgery, was listed as a “full participant” on Monday’s estimated report for Week 6.

The statuses of Barkley and Dickerson will be two to watch this week, but it’s hard to say if they’re in any real danger of missing the Thursday night outing, or if the Eagles are just listing them out of precaution.

Barkley only ran the football 6 times for a total of 30 yards in Week 5. But he did catch a touchdown pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts on a 47-yard wheel route down the sideline. He logged 88 scrimmage yards in the loss to the Denver Broncos.

Giants QB Jaxson Dart Faces Massive Test vs. Eagles

Dart has experienced polar opposite results over his first two weeks as a starter. In Week 4, he felt the ultimate highs of an upset victory at home in front of his new fanbase.

Then, in Week 5, he went on the road and experienced an ugly loss to a winless team that most fans thought the Giants should beat.

Needless to say, Week 6 is a big measuring stick for Dart. No one necessarily expects a rookie to light the world on fire and upset the defending Super Bowl champs, but fans and coaches will certainly want to see a cleaner performance from Dart against the Eagles.

The Giants turned the ball over five times in New Orleans. Dart was responsible for three of those turnovers, even if they weren’t all completely his fault.

That can’t happen again when facing a team as strong as Philadelphia.
