Cam Skattebo and Jaxson Dart are on pace to become the two most impactful rookies of the New York Giants‘ 2025 draft class.
Yet, the quarterback-running back duo also appear to be great together off the field as well.
Skattebo, the Giants rookie running back who has ascended to starter status, spoke about what makes Dart special and how they are meshing with Peter Schrager on “The Schrager Hour” podcast this week.
Dart, like Skattebo, has jumped into a starting role early in his NFL tenure after coming out of Ole Miss as a highly touted QB.
The Giants traded up to select him with the 25th pick in the draft in April, and so far he has delivered, going 1-0 and completing 65 percent of his passes and both throwing for and rushing for a TD in his first start — a 21-18 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
Skattebo, of course, was the Giants’ fourth-round selection from Arizona State and has become a fan favorite for his hard-nosed style of running and versatility. The rookie RB has 181 rushing yards and 98 receiving yards and two touchdowns amid New York’s 1-3 start.
Jaxson Dart FaceTimed Skattebo After The Giants Picked Him
Dart was picked roughly 36 hours before Skattebo by the Giants, and the running back texted the QB to start the conversation after he was chosen with the 105th overall pick.
Hours passed before Dart reached out, and Skattebo recalled how he hard from his QB while celebrating with a dinner out to with his family.
“He FaceTimed me, and I was like ‘what up?’ and he was like ‘Are you ready?!’” Skattebo recalled. “I was like, I’m ready.”
Skattebo and Dart quickly became friends since they lived next door to one another and bonded during off-season rookie camp
“Over time, we just grew together,” Skattebo said. “Being stuck in a hotel for the first part of OTAs, and our rooms were right next to each other. We ended up getting some NERF guns and having NERF fights.
“We were just trying to find things to do to have fun, going out to [New York] city to eat. Just doing all those things constantly kept us connected.”
Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo Have Built A Good Rapport
Skattebo became the Giants‘ starting running back due to an injury to incumbent Tyrone Tracy, though he is sharing reps with veteran Devin Singletary.
So the fact Dart and Skattebo are together in the Giants backfield as rookies — after they became fast friends during the off-season — is sweet to the Rio Linda, California native.
“It’s been awesome to have him as a teammate [and] as a quarterback, obviously, and just being around the building with him,” Skattebo said.
Yet, Skattebo also opened a window into what hanging with them together is like.
“Me and Jaxson are a little crazy when we’re just kind of hanging out,” Skattebo said. “It’s everything you see on the internet and probably worse.”
Then Skattebo got serious.
“We have a good time. We make each other smile,” Skattebo said. “It’s just camaraderie, making sure we’re staying connected, and one thing I always tell him is ‘make sure you don’t get too old for the game.’ We can stay young, we can stay having fun. … let’s stay connected and keep building outside of football, because life will take us a lot further.”
