Giants Rookie Thomas Fidone Reveals What Travis Kelce Liked About His Game

New York Giants tight end Thomas Fidone II was among those attending Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Greg Olsen’s popular Tight End University this summer, along with a few other members of Big Blue.

Speaking with KETV NewsWatch 7 reporter Matt Sottile in Omaha on July 6, the former Nebraska product shared that Kelce actually complimented his game a couple of times while he was at the tight end camp.

“I got some pretty cool compliments from Kelce just out of the blue, which was pretty cool,” Fidone revealed during the interview.

Adding later that Kelce told him he was “extremely athletic” and “moved extremely well.” Fidone also noted that the future Pro Football Hall of Famer praised the “top of [his] routes.”

All of this jives with early reports about Fidone from Giants OTAs and minicamp.

Fidone expressed that being able to hear all that from Kelce, an NFL legend at his position, “was cool.”

Can Thomas Fidone Make the 53-Man Roster & Push for Snaps in 2025?

As a seventh-round pick, Fidone isn’t automatically guaranteed a roster spot, but most beat reporters have him making the 53 after a fairly strong start this spring.

The real question is whether or not Fidone can push for snaps in 2025, or if he’ll be more of a redshirt rookie sitting behind Theo Johnson, Chris Manhertz, and potentially Daniel Bellinger on the Giants’ TE depth chart.

With a room this crowded, there’s no real need for head coach Brian Daboll to rush Fidone into action. If he’s going to play, it’ll be because he earned it, and that could take some time at a physical position like tight end.

Generally speaking, it takes most TE prospects a year or two to fully transition from the college game to the NFL. Of course, there are outliers like Brock Bowers or Sam LaPorta, but it’s important to remember that those are top prospects, and Fidone is a seventh-round pick.

Even Kelce practically redshirted his rookie campaign due to injury. So, it’ll be interesting to see how much Fidone pushes for opportunities in year one.

Giants Draft Pick Thomas Fidone Speaks Highly of Travis Kelce, Tight End University

Fidone seemed to enjoy his time with Kelce and company at Tight End University.

“I thought it was awesome being able to just connect and make connections with all the guys around there,” Fidone told Sottile, noting that his girlfriend also made some connections with the fellow wives and girlfriends of Tight End University.

“Being able to meet with [other tight ends], work out with them, and get different input from everyone and kind of see how they do things differently — because each tight end is different and has different skill sets and strong suits and stuff like that — so it’s fun to be able to learn from them,” he concluded.

Tight End University has drawn rave reviews around the league. And although it would likely be helpful for any tight end at any stage of their career, it feels especially beneficial for first- and second-year players.

The information Fidone could pick up from an all-time great like Kelce, Kittle or Olsen is invaluable, and it’s nice to see the Giants’ seventh-rounder being proactive during his rookie summer.
