Giants Wide Receiver and Favorite Jaxson Dart Target Poached by Former Team

The New York Giants‘ wide receiver room suffered another blow on Wednesday.

The Denver Broncos signed wideout Lil’Jordan Humphrey off New York’s practice squad, returning to the team he started the 2025 season with, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Giants‘ receiving corps was already fairly thin, with Malik Nabers out for the season with a torn ACL and Darius Slayton not practicing with a hamstring injury.

Wan’Dale Robinson, Jalin Hyatt, and Gunner Olszewski are the only three healthy wide receivers heading into Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers.

With Jameis Winston rumored to be the starting quarterback on Sunday, with Jaxson Dart still in concussion protocol, New York may need to sign a wide receiver quickly, with all the injuries piling up.

Lil’Jordan Humphrey’s Short Giants Tenure

Humphrey only appeared in three games for New York this season, but in the contests he did play, he was a favorite of the rookie quarterback, Dart.

The two had an early connection in preseason, as both saw the most reps with the second team throughout summer workouts.

That bond carried over to the regular season, when Dart was inserted as the starter.

In New York’s Week 6 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, Humphrey caught four balls for 55 yards, his best game as a Giant.

The former New Orleans Saints wideout saw less playing time the following two weeks, not registering a single catch.

Humphrey was inactive for New York’s last game against the Chicago Bears.

Now, the seven-year veteran reunites with his former head coach, Sean Payton, with the Denver Broncos, and as Schefter indicated, will receive playing time in Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Humphrey has spent time with the Saints, New England Patriots, Broncos, and Giants throughout his career, racking up 66 catches for 825 yards and seven touchdowns.

Giants Wide Receiver Issues

With Humphrey on his way back to Denver, the New York Giants are going to be stretched thin offensively on Sunday when the Green Bay Packers come to town.

They currently have four wide receivers on injured reserve, including Nabers, Beaux Collins, Da’Quan Felton, and Bryce Ford-Wheaton.

Slayton, who’s been one of the team’s more reliable targets in recent weeks, has yet to practice due to a hamstring injury.

Hyatt could see the largest uptick in playing time as a player who has long been rumored to be looking for a change of scenery.

The former third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft has only seen nine targets this season, catching three balls for 17 yards.

Robinson is the most reliable of all of New York’s healthy offensive weapons, having hauled in 53 receptions for 602 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Dart, who is still in concussion protocol, is unlikely to play on Sunday.

Winston, who was promoted from third-string to the backup quarterback role by interim head coach Mike Kafka, will have his work cut out for him in his first start as a Giant.

Perhaps we’ll see New York utilize their tight ends more in the passing game, with both Theo Johnon and Daniel Bellinger seeing increased time on the field with the lack of receiving options.
