Giants WR Wan’Dale Robinson Addresses Future in New York With ‘Business’ Comment

Aside from Jaxson Dart’s breakout rookie season, Wan’Dale Robinson’s output would be the absolute highlight of another lost year for the New York Giants offense.

So when asked about his future in New York, amid rumors of the Giants drafting a wide receiver with their inevitable top-5 draft pick, Robinson punted on whether he has discussed potentially re-upping with the team long term.

Robinson leads the Giants in receptions (81) and receiving yards (901) and only trails tight end Theo Johnson (5) for the team lead in touchdowns (4).

He has been a consistent performer, especially since No. 1 wide receiver Malik Nabers (torn ACL) and rookie running back Cam Skattebo (dislocated ankle) were lost early in the due to injuries.

Robinson, who turns 25 on Jan. 5, and the Giants (2-12) will take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday in a game that could decide which team picks first overall Sunday at Allegiant Stadium.

Wan’Dale Robinson Is Letting His Agents Worry About His Next Contract

Robinson could be in his final two games as a member of the Giants. This is the final year of his rookie contract after New York chose him with the 43rd pick of the 2022 NFL Draft from Kentucky.

But Robinson is trying not to stress out about potentially hitting free agency in March.

“I’m just trying to continue to do what I can and finish this year out strong,” Robinson said. “I’m going to let my agents and my team handle that part of the business.”

The Giants have a much-improved passing offense, thanks to Dart’s skills and the fact he has a budding star slot receiver like Robinson to throw to. Despite Nabers’ catastrophic knee injury in Dart’s first start in Week 4, the Giants are 20th in passing-yards per game (204.5), up from 28th a year ago.

Wan’Dale Robinson Is Going To Get Paid

Robinson has emerged as one of the most consistent players on the Giants. He has topped 60 receptions in three straight years and posted 500-plus receiving yards for one of the worst air attacks in the NFL.

But his production this year in Nabers’ absence is going to earn him a substantial raise from his $1.77 million base salary and $2.6 million cap hit.

Robinson ranks ninth in the NFL in receptions and eighth in targets. He has the seventh-most receptions of any wide receiver in the game, trailing only superstars Puka Nacua, Ja’Marr Chase, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Chris Olave and George Pickens.

Chase is one of the highest-paid non quarterbacks in the game, and St. Brown’s four-year, $120 million only kicked in this year. Few expect Robinson to get more than $20 million per year, since he ranks just 19th in the NFL in receiving yards.

Still, Robinson is likely to cash in in the $15-$17 million AAV range, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, since the Giants will need to surround Dart with serviceable receiver options.

“Robinson has proven this season that he can play inside and outside, though he leads all receivers with 505 yards out of the slot,” Raanan wrote last week. “But he could be costly after Buffalo’s Khalil Shakir signed a deal worth up to $15 million per year this past offseason.

“But the Giants can’t afford to lose any playmaker as they try to build around quarterback Jaxson Dart.”
